• DePopper Superior Design Made Even Better With X64

  1. 64-bit version is even faster but 32-bit version is not slow 2. All tools needed to minimize disc scratches, pops and tape hiss 3. Intuitive enough to use with minimal reference to excellent manual 4. Program is compatible with XP and Win7 OS.

  Cons

  Have found no negatives, but then I don't expect problems to be eliminated magically without some effort on my part.

  Summary

  Have been using 32-bit version for four years transcribing LP albums, and cassette tapes up to 50 yrs old to .wav and mp3 files digitized via InPort. DePopper cleans up extraneous noise, BUT you cannot expect miracles. You do need to use trial and error on the settings to DePopper because it seems every album or tape has unique audio characteristics that may require tweaking the settings to minimize noises without affecting the music quality. The digitized .wav file must be in good shape with cleaned disc, good playback equipment before you use DePopper on the file. But DePopper does a superior job compared to any other audio program that I have found for cleaning files and I've tried quite a few. MUCH better than the "descratch" or "dehiss" automatic tools you find as part of other audio programs. I use NERO for file manipulation, but NERO's "denoise" tool doesn't even start to come close to DePopper's capability. I've found no compatibility problems with other programs; no operational problems of any sort. The same program is available from either Droid Informatica or from DAK Software (if you happen to have purchased it there, as I did). The same activation key works no matter where you purchase the program and updates are easily installed.

• Fantastic program to reduce tape and LP noise

  I've been using for 3-4 years now to digitize my 78rpm, LP and cassette tape collection to mp3 and CD. Program works very well to reduce disc surface noise, clicks/pops and even tape hiss and turntable rumble.

  Cons

  Settings are not very intuitive and some careful reading of documentation is necessary for best results. It is possible to be too aggressive with user control of the settings and have the music sound "tinny." But users are cautioned in the docs.

  Summary

  Program works well as described, but program settings must be adjusted to your music, especially problem discs that may be dirty, scratched or aged tapes with background hiss that may have been recorded with dirty tape heads or less than high quality tape media. To get optimum results, you may have to run your music through the DePopper two or three times using different settings, but that's no fault of the program, just shows its flexibility to achieve great results if used properly. The program is actually written by Droid Informatica, but may be purchased from DAK electronics; either way, the program is the same and the license key works no matter who you purchase the program from. Nice cooperation between vendors and programmers. The latest program offers more flexibility in setting options and I'm still gaining experience with it.

  Cons

  Often requires retries of the same files with new settings to either quiet the clicks further or to eliminate distortion that occured because of settings being too aggressive. Does require trial and error, but results are worthwhile.

  Summary

  DePop works better than comparable record noise-removers available. HUGE difference in improved sound quality over other popular products from Nero, Winamp, etc.

  Pros

  I have used Depopper for at least 5 years. And I really like it. It does a great job of getting out the excess noise from records. I used similar products that tried to do the same thing and they fell far short in the quality of the final product.

  Nothing to complain about.

  Summary

  I recorded some old vinyl records as MP3 files; sadly, the popping on the audio was pretty distracting. De-Popper took it right out with no degradation to the original sound! Drag and drop function is supported.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Apr 10, 2009<p/>Noticed only very occasionally the pitch might increase for a 1/2 second, and sometimes an audio drop for a few seconds. However, the overall effectiveness of this software far outweighs these slight quirks. My recordings still sound 100% better than they did!!!!

  Pros

  I tested many programs that didn't work - they distorted the tracks, changed the pitch, or just missed the pops and hiss altogether. This program had the best results and cleanest sound. Well worth the $18 to clean up my vinyl rips.

  Cons

  The interface is a little bit clunky to work with but if you use the default settings, you'll get good results. The program will only work on .wav files so I have to convert from .mp3 before using.

  After reading some of the previous comments and comparing the price of this program to similar programs, I figured DePopper was too good to be true. But a free download is always worth a try. After using it, I am of the opinion that this program is without a doubt the greatest thing since sliced bread!
