This simple countdown timer performs its job, although it has some odd functionality. After double-clicking the initial window (which we found strange), ClearCode Count Down's basic interface allows you to set the countdown time and date, as well as the occasion.

Immediately after your input, the application displays the time left in days, hours, minutes, and seconds. You can select the display font and size (each size we tried was clear enough to be seen from a distance), change border styles, and set the window's opacity. As the countdown expires to zero, it only displays a short message that reads "Congrats!!!" Unlike other timers, no alarm sounds can be played, multiple alarms can't be set, nor can you customize your message.

While it does its job, those wishing for robust customization options will be disappointed. However, any user seeking a free, basic countdown timer may want to check out this application.

You can change the colors of the numbers and you do not need a background.

Pros
I like that this simple count down timer can be made to be just floating numbers counting down. I use it with the darkroom writing software and this allows it to be on top and unobtrusive.
Cons
I wish that when it hit the end of the countdown that SOMETHING happened. Maybe even allowing me to set the something. I've used it twice and can't tell if there is a completion sound because I have been focused and not noticed it. Maybe a louder fanfare or something WAV or MP3 settable, or even if I could kick off a external program, or heck maybe even flashing or blinking text options. <p>I also wish it were easier to set for other intervals; to count down twenty minutes or 2 hours without having to figure it out. I'm just lazy that way. I've seen other timers that do that but they are not as unobtrusive as this one, and that is for me it's best feature.

A no-frills countdown timer without all the bells and whistles. You get to choose the typeface and whether you want a background or not. If you want something more sophisticated, there is always spyware.

All I wanted was a countdown clock, to count down to my Honeymoon, and here I found my answer. <p> <p>I didn't want any sparkly features, just a reminder that integrated with the look and feel of my workspace - and that's where the ClearCode Count Down clock shines. <p> <p>First of all you pick a time and date, and name what it is you're counting down to. The naming part isn't so important, because the best feature is that you can make the background of the clock completely disappear, and you also have control over the opacity of the clock itself. <p> <p>THEN, you can pick the font you want your clock to be displayed in. I had a digital readout font, so picked that to emulate my alarm clock, but you can choose from any font you have installed on your machine. <p> <p>You can also resize the font size of the clock - my only quibble is that you can't resize the clock bigger than the default size. I don't know if I'd really want that anyway, but someone might. It's a decent size anyway, and you can go smaller, but the resize option is more to fit whatever font you have chosen into the display area. <p> <p>In a nutshell, if you want a countdown clock to show you how much time is left to a certain time and date, this would be my pick. If you want something that plays silly little sound files or integrates with outlook or anything else, this will be too simple for you. <p> <p>But sometimes simple is better...

Pros
It will count down in days, hours, mins and secs all the way from year 9999. Hundreds of font choices to choose from. Font opacity can be adjusted to completely invisible. Along with 5 frame choices the background and frame can be made completely transparent. With a quick double-click the settings can be changed. Has uninstaller. No spyware/trojans or internet connection requirements. Even with all these features, it only uses 7K of system memory when running, about the same as an open internet explorer window. (Did I mention it's FREE?)
Cons
None.... Maybe 1.2 can include 1) a minimize button 2) the option to anchor it to the desktop (currently it runs in foreground over the top of all open windows) and 3) font color choices. Also a download.com listing issue: software writer should list the words "count" and "down" together instead of seperate, i.e. "countdown" because a download.com search won't list it unless typed together-- typical websearch string error.
