  Pros

  When I had a MAC, I had a program called WindowWatch that monitored every single thing that was active and kept the time, including INDIVIDUAL DOCUMENTS. Ever since, I have been looking for a program that would do the same thing on Windows. There are lots of timers that will keep track of applications used, but none so far that will track individual documents except Worktime, and just as the prior reviewer said, you have to turn time on and off and it's easy to get fuddled and then you get highly inaccurate records. <p> <p>Clockshop does it by allowing you to set an individual time for each window using the window caption option -- all that means, really, is the name of the document as it appears in the top of the window. Not only does it keep the time of that document, but differentiates between idle time and active time so you can keep the window open while you do other things but that time will be idle time and you don't need to count it. <p> <p>This program is inexpensive but priceless, if that makes any sense. I had used it less than five minutes before I shrieked EUREKA! and happily went to Ectosoft.com to give them my money.

  Cons

  Explanations in help could be a little bit clearer but it's not too hard to figure things out anyway, and considering the value of this program, especially to free lances logging time for billing, it is a very small complaint that will probably be remedied in later versions.

  Pros

  I have tested a little over 12 time tracking utilities in the past few months. They all seemed to behave very similar in concept. They all seemed like variations of the same idea. However, Clockshop 1.1 caught me by surprise. It has a very elegant work-flow design based on customizable activity sensing timers. From my experience, in practice, over the past several weeks within my freelancing business, this concept proved very simple, but so cleverly effective which is impressive. Maybe its only me, but I appreciate when I see something so simple that actually works. The second most simple choice was "Worktime3" but I found that it had to be constantly tended to; having to remember to pause or switch between projects (and 70% of time I would forget). On the other hand Clockshop is hands free ... try the window-caption-sensing with a custom string for your projects and you won't need to fiddle with it... its in the background and it captures exactly what it is supposed to.   I am too happy with it right now to think about cons. If we nitpick on it, there are probably little details to improve here and there. I can't wait for the nifty new functions that are scheduled for the next version.
