Organize your desktop and manage applications by creating several independent virtual desktops. Chimera Virtual Desktop starts off nicely with a wizard to help you with setup, and offers a well-designed interface that's accessible via the system tray. You'll be able to add up to nine virtual desktops, and the program offers several ways to move between them, including a tabbed toolbar, hot keys, and through the menu. You'll also be able to set wallpaper and specify screen resolution for each desktop. The system-tray icon indicates which desktop you're currently using, or you can opt to add a semitransparent number to the upper right-hand corner of the desktop. Chimera doesn't slow down your computer or interrupt other programs running on other desktops. The only downside is the 14-day trial limitation, but any user looking for a comprehensive, easy-to-use desktop organizer will appreciate this feature-rich program.

could only get identical desktops

Maybe it is because I am new to virtual desktops but I thought that I could have different desktops but they all turned up the same if I removed a program from a desktop it disapared from all desktops. There is no support from the company.

Pros
This is the only virtual desktop manager that I have found that enables different allocation of desktop icons to different virtual desktops. 9 virtual desktops is more than enough for my purposes. Unlike the prior reviewer, I did not encounter significant bugs.
Cons
Only problem I encountered was in copying many icons to a given desktop. When I did this, they went off the screen at the bottom. But hitting "arrange icons by name" on the desktop menu bought them into view.

Pros
Not really a pro as lots of other free tools can do similar things but in general the basic ability to switch desktops worked ok. <p>The ability to have different desktop shortcuts was the main reason i chose to evaluate this software however this seems not to work!
Cons
After a few minutes playing with the software I turned on the option to have different desktop shortcuts on each screen - Myt advice - DO NOT DO THIS. After turning it on and rebooting as prompted the software proceeded to remove 90% of the data from my desktop - I think the fact that I had a couple of large files on there may have thrown the application somewhat. Im currently waiting for their support desk to get back to me and help me recover the lost files since the application will no longer start properly. Also its been nearly 48hrs and no one has yet responded to my support call. <p> <p>My advice - I wouldnt bother installing this software!
