This freeware aims to help you catalog your DVDs, CDs, and CD-ROMs. Though the installation itself is quite fast, launching CDTree Standard produces many notices, start-up tips, and nag screens promoting the Pro version. To catalog your CD collection, you either insert and scan all the disks one after another or manually enter the information. If you patiently scan all your CDs, you can avoid duplication when shopping for new ones and spot gaps in your library. You can classify entries in your collection into several categories, including Data, Games, and Music Albums. However, CDTree Standard is not that easy to use. Although you can manually add and edit information within the program, you might be better off doing the work in Microsoft Excel. However, if you're a collector who doesn't already have a cataloging program, you might as well try this free program.
* works on windows 7/8 32 bit or 64 bit.
* simple UI with solid speed.
* build a catalogue of your media library for fast searching.
Cons
None. not one problem from running this program in windows xp 32 or windows 8 x64

Pros
Meant for all types backup, music, weak on photo. Free (but wants you to register at no charge). Export. Goofy and annoying interface, but hey, some people might find it fun. Extracts some file info and audio cd lookup.
Cons
Though you can call categories anything it doesn't work well as location. No loaner info, no cover print (available on Pro for $18).
Summary
It lost all of my data.
youngbrews
Pros
Easy to install. Free.
Cons
It lost all of my data. After about a dozen data CDs & DVDs, the database was empty. I don't feel like trusting it with more data.

Don't waste your time and aggravation.
Summary
Ugly program with bad useability.
Suppiluliuma
Pros
The program offers some nice features such as audio CD indexing (queries CDDB) and the ability to scan ZIP files. It is quite quick and lets you categrorize disc files very exactly.
Cons
The features that make it superior to its competitors (the ones mentioned above etc.) are only available in the non-free pro version.

The UI is quite cumbersome.

And it's really ugly, particularly with skins enabled.

Tried others, this is best

Pros
basic and simple, no reminder to register it, FREE!! Can't beat it. I have used this for many years and thought I would try a flashier one, none did it near as good.

Pros
Very simple. Does what it is susposed to do. I can catalog all of my media and find anything when I need it.
Cons
Summary
It's not ugly! The computer graphic is cute!
SeasonBubbleGirl
Pros
It's a fast scanner which is even better because it's free. The free registration initialises the zip contents cataloging which I like the most. Too many archives to search myself otherwise!
Cons
People say it's ugly, but I rather something plain and free than pretty-coloured and pay for it. Aren't there skins for it anyway?
Summary
Simple but effective

Pros
CDTree does what it claims. I catalogued a big pile of backup CDs with mp3s and software, and it makes finding a particular file a breeze. I would never use it for games or audio CDs or DVDs. If I want to find a music CD I walk over to my CD cabinet and pick it up!
Cons
Considering it is most useful for data backups, I would like to see a "compare" feature to see which files I have backed up and which are new.

Also it needs to support more archive file types, and the interface is pretty ugly.
Summary
Good with some exceptions

Summary
Very slow when listing large catalogs. Took more that 2 minutes to show the listing of a hard drive having 43 GB files.
