Interface quirks and a lack of flexibility make Book Collection too clunky to fully deliver on its promise. The program does boast a speedy installation, a connection to helpful Web databases, and the ability to store many details about your books, including publisher, ISBN, title, and brief summaries. However book covers are displayed full-size rather than as thumbnails, and alphabetic listings are displayed encyclopedia-style: AB, CD, EF, and so forth. We were unable to export our database as a TXT or HTML file, either. Book Collection has potential for bibliophiles, but isn t likely to satisfy the average reader.
The program is not nessecarily bad itself, it does have alot of the important features.
Cons
The interface has too much white space, with very little to explain what I am looking at. Features that should take only one-click take many clicks, while the additional functionality is good, I would rather see a default screen, then be able to choose additional features. eg Rather then one click on 'loan manager' taking me to a default page showing all the borrowers etc, I am presented with a 'search' interface in which I must choose which loans to view etc. While this feature is nice, I would rather see a default screen, then choose the search option later.
