• Great for converting 3D Blu-ray to side-by-side

  Pros

  This program is very customizable, which is great. It can be set for various file size with different audio tracks and subtitles. I use it for converting my 3D Blu-rays to side-by-side 3D so that I can stream them from my Plex server to my 3DTV. Yes, this process takes several hours, but I let mine go overnight. I can't say how well it works for stripping out AACS because I use other tools for that, but for 3DBD conversion this works great.

  Cons

  This software is ad-supported, which isn't a bad thing, but I'd much prefer the option to donate to get rid of the ads. I prefer to have control over what does and doesn't get sent over the Internet. It also seems to give a complete lack of error messages. When it fails, you're never given a definitive reason why, at least not that I can see.

  Each time i start it, "BDtoAVCHD has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"...   For near Bluray quality, the AVCHD format is outstanding and allows for 720p or 1080p HD on standard DVD/DVDDL disks. A couple years ago, I went in search of the best available app for converting MKV files to AVCHD and, after extensively testing probably a dozen different programs, ultimately settled on BDtoAVCHD. This program was specifically developed to convert Bluray and MKV files to AVCHD and, though 99.5% of what I work with is MKV, I have converted a few BD files without issue. On a rare occasion, I will have an MKV file that won't convert, but the issue is always with the original MKV and not this program. I would estimate that I have had at least a 95% success rate in converting MKV's during the past 2 years. Most often I can re-encode the problematic MKV and make it work as well. BDtoAVCHD offers outstanding setup flexibility and the developer actively updates this program on a regular basis. I will always seek out and test free apps for a given application before forking over hard earned cash for a commercial program. BDtoAVCHD is one of several free programs that I consistently use several times a week. Usually I will queue up 3-4 video files I want to convert overnight, and start the app before going to bed. Currently working with BDtoAVCHD v2.1.
