I was hoping for a screensaver that would just show photos from my computer, like in Windows. And I didn't want to have to import all my photos into iPhoto. After much searching, I found this one. It's great. It shows the name of the photo, and you can "interrupt" the screensaver and go back to the previous picture, or pause on the current one, or even go to the photo in Finder. It's even better than what I was looking for!

Two key features for me: 1) it shows the file path, so you can see the date, etc 2) if a picture of interest comes up, you can use the arrow keys to move forward or backwards (fantastic!)

Can't seem to set it so you avoid black borders entirely, which would be my preference.
Summary
I was looking for this feature set for awhile. It's the best way to take good use of my growing photo collection by having it on display. (looks great on the new mac screens. It has the key features I needed, as well as the Ken Burns effect. It should be the default one that ships with Mac. It works fine my Mac Pro running 10.6.6, and I write this on January 27, so maybe "Understarsidream" has a different issue? Or maybe the author fixed a bug in the last 25 days. Bottom line, I'd definitely drop a few bucks for it on the App Store, but free is good too.

I loved this screensaver but sadly it doesn't work anymore. Hopefully, it will make a comeback via the upcoming app store - I'd be more than happy to purchase a working version.

Slide show screensaver with many more options than the built-in one

If you are looking for a "slide show" or "picture flow" screensaver that offers you more control over the display than Apple's built-in screensaver, then ArtSaver might be right for you. It is mostly geared towards people who want to see their image collections (such as beautiful landscape shots or fine art) as large as possible, and with the info which images they are seeing.

Note that ArtSaver does not sport fancy display styles, such asApple's built-in picture slide show screen saver has, like the picturepostcard effect, or the mosaic, or other special effects!The goal of ArtSaver is to present images such that you can enjoy themin their full glory.

Some of ArtSaver's options and features are the following:

Keeps a persistent database of all the images found in the specified directory tree or iPhoto album, which allows you to display huge image databases.
Use all images in a directory tree (minus the ones that are excluded by other options, see below), or all images in one of your iPhoto albums.
You can review the previous images (cursor keys), pause the slide show (space bar), or have ArtSaver show the current one in Finder (return key).
Options include:
- the speed of the gradual zoom-in and out (Ken Burns effect);
- the duration how long an image is displayed;
- whether or not the path of the image should be displayed, too. (instead of the complete path, ArtSaver can also display just the filename.)
- many many more ...
You can specify constraints to exclude certain images.

ArtSaver should work out-of-the box with its built-in defaults. However, in ArtSaver's Options pane you'll probably want to specify the directory where ArtSaver can find the images (default = ~/Pictures), and whether and how ArtSaver should display the image name. All other options in the other two sections probably work by default, but they are there if you need to change them.
