Let It Snow

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />First off, I was surprised I had to go to an almost 5 year old piece of software to satisfy my holiday/winter need for snow on my desk top. Tried LotsaSnow, but despite the fact each flake is individually rendered, the lack of twirl and motion on the flakes, plus the limited gradated background with an adjustable tacky flare in the upper right hand corner makes LotsaSnow a not too aesthetic piece of winter screen saver. Snowfall, on the other hand, offers a bit of animation on the flakes, and more importantly lets you use a background photo. With the right shot, this combination soars. With the default background, it's still okay, but a little boring. If you have some nice winter photos and you're into PhotoShop, Snowfall will be the icing on the cake. Too bad the developer makes you join some web vendor to submit screen shots. But since it's freeware, maybe that's his way to pick up a buck.
Pretty!

Just one thing I noticed: after a few minutes of being active, the snowflakes tend to form repeating patterns, that destroy the illusion of random snowfall. Is this a bug, or is there some deeper meaning to be found there?
