Used ArkIt SK Small-File Archiver for Windows?
Developer’s Description
ArkIt SK is an archiver best used with relatively small files--in the single megabyte range or less. It uses no compression and provides a means to secure files by storing them in a single file (archive) which is in turn accessible only by persons having a copy of the same executable that created the archive. (Archives encode a security key matching that of the executable, which is itself keyed.) Files can be extracted from an archive via the program interface, or using command line syntax, which can be called from batch files or invoked from other programs. For a developer wanting to securely package files into a single file and extract them only as needed or called upon by an application, this system provides a secure way of doing so, as the archiver can be included in an application and activated to extract files via command line calls on demand. Because the archiving format utilized by ArkIt SK is proprietary, ArkIt SK archives are not recognized by and thus cannot be used with traditional archiving/unzipping software.
The distribution 'demo' is fully functional as to archiving and extraction capabilities but lacks the security feature, as all copies of the demo utilize the same key. To test the security functionality, a second, uniquely keyed ArkIt SK executable is included whose filename is ArkItSK2.exe.
