If you want an RSS newsreader, Active Web Reader is one of the better ones available. This application offers all the standard features you need, plus a few extras that make it easy to get your news fast and all in one place. Active Web Reader comes with a sampling of feeds and Web sites you can explore in the three-pane interface common to most readers in this category. If you want to add your own feed, you can right-click a category, title the feed, and enter the XML link and how often you want it to update, and you're done. The viewing window offers tabbed browsing and a brief summary of each story, so you can decide if you want to open a link. Our favorite feature is the ability to import your Internet Explorer bookmarks, so in addition to your RSS newsfeeds, you can check all your favorite Web sites. Our only criticisms of this reader are its reliance on Internet Explorer and the inability to drag and drop feeds into the interface. Active Web Reader offers an ease of use that's unmatched in this category, and it remains free (though the developer would like your donation). Due to its mostly intuitive interface and excellent feature set, we recommend this newsreader for beginning as well as for advanced users.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Pretty much junk. Fake "free" software with 10 preconfigured feeds that can't be removed. (sponsorship deal). Don't call it a freeware it's an ads supported software. Not ran Adaware yet to see how many spyware it installed on the side.

Fast download, easy to install.
Cons
Kept crashing, had to uninstall. Did not find it useful at all. Was easier to visit my favorite news sites and click the story I want to view. Isn't that what Favorites or Bookmarks are designed to do? This whole concept of RSS is an extra step.

Pros
This is the first RSS reader that hasn't crashed (tried Tristana (kernel32.dll error) and Sharpreader (internal error)). Pluck requires creating an account. Attensa, which integrates into outlook, still required loading IE to read the actual story. The auto-find module looks for RSS feeds while browsing web sites. This may be a good feature for some and an annoyance for others but installation is optional.
Cons
Can't delete default folders (but can deleted included feeds except in the software folder) but most are catagories we all use anyway. This is a minor flaw for a free program that doesn't require creating an account and having a web site track which feeds you're reading. I would hardly call it an intrusion or abuse of privacy as other have. The email feature is built into the program (doesn't use your default email reader) so there is no easy access to your address book. Hopefully this will be corrected in the future.
