Editors’ Review
Teleport Pro allows users to download and view all the elements of a website. While this program provides offline browsing, it is not without some flaws that might turn users off.
This program's layout is initially intimidating, offering tons of white space and not much direction. Fortunately, there is a wizard that walks users through every step of the process. Utilizing the command icons after downloading a website may require a visit to the Help file, as it also provides no direction for the user. Working through the wizard was simple enough for every level to utilize.
First, users choose whether they want to download an entire site, duplicate a website, search a site for a specific file type, search websites for keywords, and a few other options.
Beyond that, users enter the URL and click a few radio buttons to perform the download. Each site is displayed as a file tree, which helps showcase how the site is organized and structured. The program is light on features, and we would have liked a viewer, so that users can surf through their downloaded content like an online browser, instead of having to click through the file tree.
With its uncomfortable navigation and difficult website viewing, we have tested more user-friendly offline browsers. However, this trial (with a 500-file download limit) could be useful to study website structures. This download can be a big help or a headache depending on your needs.
When compared to other offline browsing tools like HTTrack, Teleport Pro offers a similar set of functionalities, but with a more complex interface. HTTrack is another free and open-source website copier that allows users to download websites for offline browsing. It also has a user-friendly interface with more intuitive navigation, especially when it comes to setting up and managing multiple website projects. HTTrack provides a clearer way to manage the files you've downloaded and even lets users mirror sites in a way that preserves more structure, such as properly handling URL redirection and multiple mirrors.
Another alternative is WebCopy, a free tool by Cyotek. This program has a more modern interface than Teleport Pro, and it allows users to download websites, customize what content gets copied, and even set filters to include or exclude specific file types. WebCopy also features a built-in viewer, allowing users to preview downloaded sites directly within the app, something Teleport Pro lacks.
However, Teleport Pro shines when it comes to offering deeper customization options during the download process, such as filtering by file type or keyword searching across multiple websites. For more experienced users who want more control over what gets downloaded, Teleport Pro could be a better choice despite its less intuitive interface.
Bottom Line
Teleport Pro has its merits, particularly for those who want to explore website structures or need advanced features, but other options like HTTrack or WebCopy provide a more user-friendly experience for general users.
