IOBit's PCtransfer backs up and restores files, folders, and documents, even to a new or different PC. It's portable freeware, so it can run from a USB drive on any PC running Windows XP to 8. It backs up and transfers pictures, videos, e-mail, browser settings, and more. PCtransfer can't recover entire disks or systems, but it can help you save and transfer the critical personal files you don't want to lose if something happens to your computer.
Easy backups: PCtransfer identifies the files you're most likely to need; all you have to do is deselect those you don't want, add more files or folders, and choose a backup destination.
It works: We backed up files with PCtransfer, deleted the originals, and successfully restored them from PCtransfer's backup -- all with a few clicks.
Portable: At 4.51MB, PCtransfer is lightweight enough to keep on your backup disk or USB drive, ready to run when you need it.
Zero bytes: PCtransfer didn't back up or restore empty folders. It's not a drastic problem, since no data was lost, but we expected the entire directory to be restored.
Bit basic: More options and controls would be welcome. For example, we could specify a disk letter as a backup destination but not a path to a particular folder or directory.
Help is on the way: The Help button leads to a Web form to contact tech support, not a Help file, manual, or product page.
PCtransfer isn't a complete PC backup solution and doesn't pretend to be, but it's easy to use and effective. PCtransfer could save a lot of time and fuss when moving your personal files to a new computer.
PCtransfer, the best free and portable transfer assistant for Windows XP, 7, 8, can securely and easily transfer important documents, files, browser bookmarks and settings, photos, Skype chat record, email and contact in Outlook to the new Windows system. What's more, PCtransfer can quickly select and back up the third-party programs and settings. You can easy restore programs and data with one click and use them in the new system just as before.
