This simple, free tool alerts you when you've got mail in your Gmail account. The novice-friendly Gmail Notifier is easy to install and set up, requiring only your username and password. A small white envelope is placed in your system tray. It's easy to see when new e-mail arrives, and a pop-up window provides information on the sender, subject, and time the e-mail was sent. If you miss the alert the first time, a handy option, Tell Me Again, will show the pop-up again. Gmail Notifier won't take you directly to a specific e-mail, but a double-click quickly takes you to your in-box.

Although the program automatically scans for new items every couple of minutes, you can right-click the system tray icon to check your in-box at any time. One note to potential users: we found that the promised audio alerts can't be set up from within Gmail Notifier. Instead, the publisher directs you to your computer's Control Panel.

No help file comes with the program, but Gmail users won't have any problems setting up and using this simple tool. Despite the extra steps to set up the audio notifications, any Gmail user will appreciate the desktop notifications when new e-mail arrives.

When I click on the link, I'm taken to a Gmail help page that tells me how to get notifications from my browser or phone. "Change email notifications You can turn on notifications to get alerts on your phone or computer when you get new emails."

I like the cute blue icon and although this tool is made for Windows XP it works on Windows 7 I find. It does what it says it does.No problems with this product so far.

None really.Only for G.Mail. Cannot be used to check Yahoo or Hotmail accounts for example.

This is the old version of G Mail Notifier. was brought out in 2006 and has not been updated since. It is for Windows XP but I find it is working very well on Windows 7. This is a very simple tool but sometimes simple is better as it is easy to use and understand. And this simple is best approach works well for this tool. To use it you just type in your G.Mail username and password click OK and it checks right away. If you want to check another G.mail account just type in the username and password of that.This is a safe tool but it not safe for a shared computer as G.Mail notifier saves your username and password. So the next person that users the computer can see your username and password and see your messages. G,Mail notifier displays the first few lines of your new inbox messages and tell you who they are from. Also another useful thing is that if you click on the check email box in ADVANCED BROWSER the web browser takes you directly to your G.Mail where you can check messages or send a message. Which is handy.Anyone who does not have Advanced browser should get it. IAs it works on those sites that requires IE but is much more secure than IE and has a lot of handy features like the one I just mentioned. There is a newer version of G.Mail brought out last year that is made only for Windows 7. But I don't think that, that one is made by Google but by another company. But that newer one is not the same. As this it is a different product and I did not like that as it was not user friendly at all. But this tool by Google IS user friendly. So windows 7 users should get THIS version here not the other version. Unable to click the link from msgs and reply to email.

It notifies me when I have new emails. Did a great job.

However I could not click on any link from the msg. I've to log in to gmail with firefox to click the link. 2ndly, I could not reply to any msg. Basically its a notifier that notifies and allow you to mark read/unread and delete and NOTHING ELSE.
Summary
It's good. But what's the point without allowing the users to click the link and reply to the mail or atleast a link to reply to a mail. Else it makes no different, we still need to go to gmail and reply.
Simple and get's the job done.

Lacks advanced features like option to mark email as read (having seen the pop-up summary). Or the option to add more Gmail accounts. More customisations like a different colour pop-up if fresh emails carry a particular lable.
