Calorie Counter includes our excellent free food database - counting calories in over nine thousand foods including fast foods such as McDonalds, Burger King, and Pizza Hut. Pay a small fee to upgrade to the full version and Calorie Counter calculates your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) calorie requirements, based on your height, weight, age, gender and the number of calories you burn by taking exercise. Calorie Counter calculates your Body Mass Index. No other software is easier to use. Now includes a diary and time to target weight planner.
It installed, then asked for some basic info, then wouldn't do anything after that.
Summary
It asked for basic info, such as name (ostensibly because more than one person can enter info), weight and height (in metric or imperial units, not U.S. pounds or feet/inches), etc. However, when you try to save it, it complains that this is a "demo" version, so you can't save it. Then, it clears the data, so you have to start from scratch; if you omit the non-demo version info, it says that you haven't filled-in all the info. In other words, this is a demo that doesn't work. Not too smart, and certainly not an incentive to (presumably) purchase the full version, especially as there are plenty of free online calorie counters available. The uninstall left a folder with a small database file, and a desktop icon, which I couldn't delete (that's more Vista's fault than Calorie Counter's, but still . . . ).
Don't bother with this useless program.
FREE software with massive food database
rouletteplayer
Pros
Free, massive food database, quick and easy search functions. Really easy to use.
Cons
The software is free but you need to pay if you want the version with diary etc.
Summary
Really good idea this, loose weight without gimmicks or tricks. Not for those who want magic pills but the principles are sound and you will end up slimmer and healthier for the experience. My weight loss has been exactly as predicted in the software. This has spurred my on as I will hit my target weight when predicted. I have cut out nothing just replaced big calorie foods with lower versions (thanks to the database). As such I am not on a diet just more food savvy.

Great database resource, easy to use
Cons

Summary
Very good food database and it is actually FREE, unlike many others. I went on to buy the full version with personal diary and stats which is great. Gave me a time to target weight with calorie level. Really good, no smoke and mirrors, just facts.
