Auslogics Disk Defrag is an upgrade from the built-in Windows disk defragmenter. Free, fast, and thorough, it can defrag whole disks or individual files and folders, on schedule or on demand. You can exclude files and folders from defragging, set defragmentation priority, and analyze and optimize disks as well as defragging them. Auslogics Disk Defrag not only excludes SSDs from defragmenting but helps optimize them, too.

Pros

Cluster Map: A disk defragger with no cluster map is no fun, as Microsoft learned. Auslogics Disk Defrag not only has a cluster map but also two map styles and a menu full of color themes. Clicking Show Speed Map on the View menu displays Fast and Slow disk access zones.

Algorithms: The Program Settings offers optional algorithms that can delete temporary files before defragmenting, skip files of a certain size, and perform other operations.

WAS the best, now terrible!

Cons

So sad, I've used this defrag software for years, and now I've tried the latest version 3 times on 3 pc's and in ALL instances, it hijacked my chrome and I had 63 malware items found when I ran Malwarebytes. I guess I will have to find a new defrag program, goodbye Auslogics, you just lost a long time supporter.

Summary

Was the best, now the worst, installs ad/malware, why they did this I do not know, if anyone has any recommendations for another defrag program let me know, thanks!

Pros

None. This used to be a decent program, but not anymore.

Cons

- Installed unwanted programs
- Only defragged 58% of drive. Had to run another defragger behind it.
- Left behind junk registry keys and folders on uninstall

Summary

I do not recommend this program, or company, at all.

"Was good, now iffy"

Pros

Small, fast defragmenter. Relatively effective for me for several years.

Cons

Lately (as of Dec. 2016) has installed two other apps without any warning or chance to decline. They are an optimizer/malware finder/junk file deleter AND a driver updater. Malwarebytes now labels ALL three of these apps as PUPs, which it never did before. I finally uninstalled them all.

Summary

Good, basic defragmenter which has suddenly began installing other unwanted apps.

Pros

Offers more features than previous versions, including ability to defrag SSD drives.

Cons

The latest version of this program is still very buggy and not ready for prime time. Some features do not work, such as the "quick defrag" option.

Scanning hard disks is now agonizingly slow... before this "upgrade" a basic scan and defrag of all my drives could be accomplished in as little as 1:30 minutes, and this is on a system with 24 TB storage. Now to do a full scan on all drives will take more than 30 min, and that is with minimal fragmentation. Part of the problem is that while the previous version could do multiple disks at the same time, it seems the latest version scans and defrags the disks in series.

An even more bothersome aspect is that now Auslogics attempts to bundle BoostSpeed in with the defrag. Of course the program itself is useless unless you pay, attempts to scare the user into thinking there is something seriously wrong with their machine, and of course uses intrusive pop-ups in the process. VERY unethical for a company that claims to be on the level.

Summary

Would avoid the current version (7.0) at all costs... either wait to see if Auslogics will bother to fix this mess with the next update, or roll back to an earlier version.

This really is a shame, and a perfect example of what happens when the manufacturer of a good product gets greedy. I've been recommending Disk Defrag for years to friends and clients, but until this product is properly fixed and debugged, I can no longer recommend this product in good conscience.

"STAY AWAY FROM AUSLOGICS - IT''S A TRAP TO GET YR MONEY"

Pros

The Disk Defrag works well on my SSD, even allowing me to do a one-time actual defragment before the SSD TRIM, which Smart Defrag would not allow.

Cons

I usually watch closely for stowaway installs, but BoostSpeed got by me.
I installed Auslogics Disk Defrag BASED UPON THE DOWNLOAD.CNET.COM Editor's rating of 4 1/2 stars along with the users' rating of 4 1/2 stars.
BIIIIGGGGG Mistake. I should have researched elsewhere.
Unknown to me, Auslogics Disk Defrag also installed Auslogics BoostSpeed, which I did not need and do not want. When I saw that BoostSpeed had installed, I ran it.
SECOND BIIIGGGGG Mistake. I should have known that a stowaway program, which installed without asking me first, could not be a good thing.
BoostSpeed did little or nothing, so I attempted to exit the program. But it insisted on offering me the paid version for $19.99, and IT WOULD NOT EXIT WITHOUT MY PURCHASING IT. This stowaware had just become RANSOMWARE.
THIRD BIIIIGGGG MISTAKE... No, I did not bite.
Windows 8.1 Task Manager closed the program.

Now the BoostSpeed stowaware/ransomware WILL NOT INSTALL, AND ITS FILES CANNOT BE DELETED.

Summary

AVOID AUSLOGICS. EVEN A GOOD PROGRAM LIKE DISK DEFRAG CAN BE USED TO TRAP YOU INTO PAYING A $20 RANSOM FOR SOMETHING ELSE YOU DIDN'T WANT. AUSLOGICS MAY HAVE BEEN A STRAIGHT UP COMPANY UNTIL RECENTLY, BUT IT APPARENTLY HAS BEEN SWALLOWED UP BY CORPORATE CARNIVORES WITH SUBSTANDARD BUSINESS ETHICS.

"I ran this program and a lot of my files were deleted"

Cons

I ran this program and a lot of my files were deleted. Tons of old photos, work related documents, resume, etc. were gone. I did a search on my computer and these files were not moved to a new location nor were they in the Recycle Bin. They are just gone. Worst part is, I don't think the computer became any faster.

Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do to recover my lost files?
