  5 year old software with terrible navigation. In testversion it is not possible to add new drive,. e.g. harddisc. One only is allowed to play around with a test catalogue. :-(

  I can find all of my files on all of my disks and even catalog my hard drives and put notes on each file and folder. Also prints labels of all kinds.

  This product not only catalogs disks, it also catalogs hard drives and Microsoft directories! It prints right to commercially available labels for all media and it provides label templates that you can print for your local printer to use if you don't want to pay for labels at your office supply store. It will find any file at any time anywhere. And you can attach a 250-character note and a category name (business, art, pictures, etc.) to each file on each disk for instant search. It will search by any string within the Note, search by Category, Search by Name, etc. It prints out a complete listing of all files on any medium and the search uses a structured storage engine to go through thousands of files instantly. When it finds the file you want, it tells you what disk it's on, where it's located and, if you double click on the file, it will ask for the disk where that file is stored (it automatically numbers disks in an unused space on the disk itself. When you put the disk in its drive (CD, Floppy, etc.) it automaticlly starts the software program the file needs for you to operate. If it's a .doc file, Word automatically starts and brings up the file you were searching for. If the contents of your disk change, you merely tell it to "Update" the disk and the new file is created with the changes. This is a great product! If there are any negative reviews they're from some of its competitors who I've seen trying to copy this product and sell their version of it. Try it. It's free to use and all features can be tested. That's what I did. I wound up buying it for everyone in my office. Now my office uses nothing else for thousands of corporate files as well as all of each employee's entire disk collection. It also has built-in security to protect all catalogs you create. When you print labels, you can add color graphics, change type, scale type, etc. We're also cataloguing all medical images like MRIs, CTs, and X-Rays of all kinds.

  1-pro-file was written in old Visual Basic 5.0. It looks outdated and acts outdated. Totally non-customizable.

  I've tried every program on the market looking for one this good. The previous reviewer obviously doesn't know how to use it so his review tries to hide his inexperience by knocking the product. I now have 300+ people in my company using this product and it's made my life, and my staff's, much easier and faster. We can find anything at anytime anywere. Take time to read the manual. You don't NEED the manual but you'll learn lots of tricks that you can use and you'll be delighted with the product. We do lots of archiving of financial data that we can't afford to lose and we must find NOW. This is the product to use. We've done our homework and we finally found Pro-File. Try it!

  Installer installs old files over newer windows controls. Doesn't pick up the volume label so you have to type it in. Could be the framework for a good program but needs lots of work.

  Try it, you'll love it! Nothing else even comes close. I've used it for a year and I keep finding slick stuff it will do. I'm responsible for archiving all university electronic and digital files and this product does it all. Most important, I can find any file and any disk immediately and that's my job. Thousands of disks and thousands of files. It's great!

  Can show you which disk has enough room for a large file and keep you from putting one file per disk. Helps you fill up the disk and then find any file within a couple of seconds. Labels all disks and even prints out reports (and you can search the report before it's printed and see on the screen the file you want and where it's located). You also can attach a 15 or 20 word note to each file and each disk describing what it is and what it's supposed to do. Then you can search for the file using any part of the attached note. Faster searches than anything else available. And cheap. Doesn't need custom labels. Get them from your local office supply. You also can buy any labels directly from the Pro-File web site if that's easier. Try it!

  I've spent two years and I've bought every other product like this on the market and none are anywhere near as good as this one! Pro-File gets MY vote! After you try everything else, this is the one you'll wish you had bought.
