XNote Timer is a simple and easy-to-use stopwatch and timer. A few extra features make this program fun, but its best attribute may be that it's so simple to use.
The program's interface is basic and easy to understand. There's nothing fancy, no skins or different display styles. The clock consists of black digital numbers on a gray background. The program's handful of options can be accessed from a drop-down menu. We liked that the program can be resized in any direction by dragging its borders, and a compact feature allows users to minimize the menu and display only the clock itself. With these versatile resizing capabilities, the program can be displayed full-screen or as just a tiny square. Both the stopwatch and timer features are easy to use. For the stopwatch, users need only click Start. The timer can simply count down a given amount of time, but users can also set it to play a sound file and/or open a program when time runs out. Both the stopwatch and timer display hundredths of a second. Users can set hot keys to start and stop the program, reset the clock, or access the menu. The program has no Help file, but we didn't really miss it, as all of the programs features are fairly self-explanatory.
XNote Timer is free. It requires no installation. We recommend this program to all users looking for a simple stopwatch or timer.
From dnSoft Research Group:
Simplest yet effective desktop stopwatch and timer software. Can be resized even to full-screen. Controlled with system-wide hot keys. Timer alarm allows to play any audio file, launch any application, then close itself. Runs without installation.
- Quick & easy setup - Intuitive to use - Lots of features (stop watch, timer, etc.) - No Nag ware so you can just use it without being asked to "go pro" or some other stupid non-sense! - Can run it right from the .exe, no install required.
Can't find one. Maybe that you can't change the colors? Pretty lame con I'd say.
Fantastic. All around great! It was exactly what I wanted and was looking for. I had tried about a dozen others and this one is THE BEST! I will keep using it forever! I will pass it on to my children who will pass it on to theirs! Thanks you xNote!
Ease of use, smallness of program, customisable sounds & times, helpful & approachable programmer.
None that I can think of.
Great little prog that "Does Exactly what it says on the Tin". I use it as a repeating countdown timer to help me keep an eye on my forex charts, and it does its job unobtrusively and perfectly. Some day all programs will be made this way!
Overall, it appears to come with a lot of great features but was poorly executed regarding the fact that it will slow or lag if you are doing several tasks at once. I was making an attempt to record the time it was taking me to work on a large project so that I had an accurate inventory of my hours for billing my customer. However, I feel that, due to the lag or slowing of the timer when I was jumping between various programs, the time was inaccurately recorded and I felt that I lost quite a bit of the time I took working on this project that I could have otherwise billed my customer and been paid for the hours full hours completed. I am now going to have to accept a loss for the hours worked.
leaffall, any computer timer relies solely on a hardware timer. XNote doesn't "count" the time. It just reads timemarks. So the problem in your hardware. Anyway, future versions will provide a choose which hardware timer to use.
Works in Windows 7. Standalone app (doesn't require installation). Lightweight. Looks good, fits in with Windows. Doesn't try to do too much, but performs its core tasks very well.
The program icon is very unattractive compared to other, post-XP programs. I hope they change this because the program itself is perfectly designed and looks great.
This is the best of the timer apps I've ever used and is probably as good as a timer will ever need to be. It's rare to be able to say this but: a problem has been solved, Xnote Timer is the best in its class.
