Editors’ Review
XNote Timer is a simple and easy-to-use stopwatch and timer. A few extra features make this program fun, but its best attribute may be that it's so simple to use.
One of the best things about the XNote Timer is its range of features. You can change the display size, colors, font, and transparency. This means you can make it fit wherever you need it, from a big screen at an event to a small corner of your computer screen. It also has a stopwatch and countdown timer. When the countdown ends, the timer can do things like play a sound, start a program, or control other devices through a connection port.
You can manage your time in detail with this timer. It lets you record times and see how much time has passed since your last record. You can also add notes to each time you record. This is handy for keeping track of what you were doing. Another cool feature is that you can put these times straight into an MS Excel cell. This makes handling your data much easier because you don't have to move it from one place to another.
The timer allows you to set custom times too. You can adjust the timer to start from a specific time or reset it. This makes it very flexible for different kinds of tasks.
XNote Timer can do a lot more. You can use many timers at once, and each one can have its settings. You can control the timer from any application using special shortcut keys. This is great because you don't have to switch between apps to use the timer.
You can also connect the timer to external devices. This means you can start, stop, and reset it with things like a switch, a light sensor, or even a tag reader. This is perfect for when you need very accurate timing.
The program's interface is basic and easy to understand. There's nothing fancy, no skins or different display styles. The clock consists of black digital numbers on a gray background. The program's handful of options can be accessed from a drop-down menu. We liked that the program can be resized in any direction by dragging its borders, and a compact feature allows users to minimize the menu and display only the clock itself. With these versatile resizing capabilities, the program can be displayed full-screen or as just a tiny square. Both the stopwatch and timer features are easy to use. For the stopwatch, users need only click Start. The timer can simply count down a given amount of time, but users can also set it to play a sound file and/or open a program when time runs out. Both the stopwatch and timer display hundredths of a second. Users can set hot keys to start and stop the program, reset the clock, or access the menu. The program has no Help file, but we didn't really miss it, as all of the programs features are fairly self-explanatory.
Bottom Line
XNote Timer is free. It requires no installation. We recommend this program to all users looking for a simple stopwatch or timer.
