WinGuggle

CNET Editors' review

by: CNET staff on March 12, 2009

If you're in search of a tool that can quickly and reliably unlock your Windows and Office product keys, this freeware has you covered.

WinGuggle is a basic, no frills program that has only one fundamental function; to find your original product key. The program comes in a compressed file, but as soon as you open it, it is a quick click to find your product key. The main tab immediately displays product keys for the Microsoft products installed. In this same tab, users can customize the owner and organization information. The Tools tab allows you to add pertinent information as you see fit. Users can then choose to back up this information.

Any one can use this simple but effective tool, and we recommend it for any users needing to locate Microsoft product keys.

"Now a 'Noteworthy' addition to one's tools..."

    February 20, 2011  |   By DaDreamWizard

    Version: WinGuggle 2.3

    Pros

Product key function: perfect & automatic. Under 'Tools' tab one can easilly change / create OEM data with a picture. To easy. 'System Summary' Tab has nearly all system component areas to see what's under the hood. The third tab is sort of a pun.

    Cons

The System Summary tab could prove useful, but invoking it takes a noticeable amount of time to initialize because it gets ALL the data for the 11 areas covered, not just the one or two you want to see.

    Summary

The Product Key tab can show current keys. It would have been huge if it allowed changes to be made from here also. There are reasons this could be needed.
Why the 'System Summary' tab / function is included with an app as this still makes no sense to me, unless one was selling a machine and wanted to get as much data about the pc as possible simply. And using it isn't quick or speedy & many other apps have this type of summary retrieval, many with lots more coverage, yet the catagories were selected wisely and 2 or 3 out of the ordinary.

If you build your own machines 'Tools' is always handy. Individual apps exist to do this function alone. OEM information is just a text 'type' file with a different extension. If you understand how the data is laid out to appear formatted as it does then an app isn't needed. But these apps speed up time, do the dirty work so you can spend it creatively.

All in all, I installed it & it runs fine on a 64bit Win7 machine, and It's handy to have around.
