Editors' Review

System Mechanic Free helps you maximize your system's performance by addressing a number of common issues. Through this app, you can tune up multiple aspects of your computer to maximize both loading and processing speeds.

Lots of info: When you first open System Mechanic Free, you can take advantage of the various video tutorials and articles available to help you get a feel for all the software's features. The app itself also presents you with lots of useful information about what types of problems you may be experiencing and allows you to select which you want to fix individually. And it also provides warnings about potential security issues and makes recommendations about how to fix them.

Speedy: All of the processes we tested in this app were carried out quickly. The app also shows you how you can get your machine to start up faster by managing the number of apps that open when you turn the computer on.

Choppy navigation: This app's interface isn't the easiest to navigate. It's not too hard to find the features you're looking for, but they're not always where you expect them to be, so it can take a bit of poking around until you get used to the layout.

Bottom Line

System Mechanic Free is a good tool for speeding up you computer and helping you keep it running smoothly. While the navigation could be better, all of the tools you'd expect are there, and the amount of information provided about your system and its problems makes this a good choice for inexperienced users.

"system mechanic is not connected to windows?"

August 02, 2015  |  By lahavyanai

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free

Quick installation, I think it has a beautiful interface, lots of windows repair options

The software was installed a few months, all the time I was doing what the program asked me,(in the main window) .and always at the end I was "told" that the system was in good condition. The problem is that gradually the system would freeze ,and load/reset time becomes very long,i had only 3 startup items,Antivirus avast pro was installed At times I did a eset online scan. testing sfc / scannow discovered corrupted files, Windows Update stopped because of errors .Everything looks bad. Nevertheless, the software (system mechanic )is living in its own world,- still ,after some operations it performed ,again I was "told" that all is well in windows.

At the end I did a clean install of Windows.
And what a difference ......

"It can be the right program for you"

+Excellent active optimization - Get more out of your system from your CPU, RAM, and hard disk (SSD included)
+Really solves other problems that other similar utilties cannot find
+Does increase your performance (Has a nice drive defragment tool)

-Old and unchanging interface (Could use a new, modern look for easier navigation for users)
-Antivirus included with the suite is horribly and still needs a lot of work
-Netbooster doesn't really do any noticeable increase with your internet connection
-Iolo Technical Support is not reliable as they can't help you (in my experience) with problems with their software on the computer. If you're looking for tech support, iolo is not the place to be.
-Can corrupt your windows 8, 8.1 installation files on your hard disk. Found this out the hard way when trying to do a PC refresh.
-Driver Updater isn't very accurate or efficient.
-Does not fix drive errors permanently (I don't know about you guys but, everytime I do a scan it appears I always have a drive error even if that not a case: and this was on a SSD).

[Note: I am a former user who paid for IOLO until last year December 2014. I say former because I couldn't afford it afterwards.)

This program can be a hit or miss with users: works either best on some, worse on others. The only thing I can tell you is to have a backup of your system and try it out yourself to see if it works for you and your system.
So far my experiences with it so far were good despite the many cons I listed.
I have tried this on many machines running Windows 7 and 8 in my home.
I only had 1 annoying problem on windows 7 home premium x64 (UI was messed up for some reason; couldn't use the program), and the most severe was on my windows 8.1 gaming laptop (Iolo messed up my windows 8 installation files-that gave me a headache for two weeks).

That said, I will not recommend this product to average users unless they know what they are getting into and have made apropriate backups. While the tools they included in the suite may/can cause future problems in a long run that is your choice to use it or not.
What I actually love and approve of this product was the PROS I listed above.
I had a G750JX Gaming laptop. The improvements made to the active optimization features on the suite really made my gaming experience wonderful. I once removed iolo just to see, and notice a drop in the general performance of my laptop.

The recent under the hood improvements seem to focus on that aspect of the suite which I really like. I believe if they update the rest of the tools found in their suite (which I suspect they have not updated in a long time), and have a dedicated support and feedback forum, this would be one of the great Paid products out there.

Conclusion: Backup your system, trial run it, and give it a spin if you feel like you have enough technical knowledge to risk it.

What's new in version

PowerSense dynamically senses what PC users are doing and automatically switches PC power settings and processor modes in real-time to have PCs perform precisely to users' needs based on their activity. PowerSense utilizes two different modes to achieve ultimate power optimization:

  • Ultra Performance Mode - Unleashes raw, fast, uncompromised power for intense and exhaustive PC activities: gaming, creating music, video editing, programming and other processor intensive activities. Ultra Performance Mode achieves this by focusing all processor cores on the session at full power and turns off all non-essential background programs.
  • Endurance Mode - Reduces battery consumption when the top priority is a long-lasting mobile session, especially for non-processor-intensive activities such as writing, reading or casual web browsing. Endurance Mode achieves this by idling down non-critical processor cores and reduces processor power consumption.
