• Finally, a Start menu that is perfect!

  Pros

  Easy to install. No restart required. Gives us the option of choosing their logo OR Windows start buttons. Other programs have their proprietary Start logo which screws up my ability to take screen shots correctly for the curriculum I write. This program is free to try, so you at least get to try things out for yourself. I'll gladly pay $3.00 for a license. I'd be willing to pay four times that because of what this program will save me in having to go to the office to use Windows 7.

  Pros

  Works fine in general. Have used a similar utility for Windows 7, and after upgrading to Windows 8, I tried StarIsBack for an month (trail period). My suggestion is simply to learn, how east it is to use the keyboard, in stead of the "Start menu". It simply make you work faster.

  Cons

  Be VERY carefully when uninstalling StarIsBack... It simply uninstall AND restart the computer, WITHOUT notifying you about it. Have just lost two days of work because of this poor programming !!!

  Summary

  My suggestion is simply to learn, how east it is to use the keyboard, in stead of the "Start menu". It simply make you work faster.

  Nothing flash, just like win 7 which is actually a good point.

  Summary

  Windows is doomed, it is an OS , which means Obsolete System in Microsoft's case. Win 8 is the last Windows that I will use. It is like a Hummer, big, heavy, consumptive and flashy, and expensive to maintain. I use Ubuntu on one computer and am saving up to buy a Macbook Pro. Windows PC's are cheaper, but Office is expensive if you want Outlook and Publisher, and every darn year you have to buy Antivirus licences and every week you have to scan, do backups, and things like checkdisk, defrag and updates, all very time consuming and completely unnecessary if one is using Linus or Apple. Bye bye Microsoft, thanks for all you have taught me, and good luck to all you users who need to buy a Start Button because MS took it away, this Product will meet your needs

  Love the Windows 7 start menu. Love not having to go to the Windows 8 Start Menu to find something.

• Tried to install Conduit browser hijacker AGAIN!!

  Pros

  Don't know yet I'm still livid. I just did a factory restore on a brand new laptop. Just to remove Conduit that had slipped in on a different software install. As all recommended uninstall methods failed. Could not open a browser without massive scripting error popups stacking sometimes 10 deep.

  Cons

  There are like 5 more "Free Offer" programs that try to install during the process. When the horror started, I was presenting the new computer to the new owner. Yay more work for me, user gets to wait for their new laptop.

  Summary

  Keep your Kung Fu strong. This may be a good program as stated by ALL the other reviewers. But it has some evil hitchikers that try to sneak in on the ride. Hard to believe not a single other user mentioned this. People, even if its a great program, a little heads up... Please

• A Brilliant Program Of A Genius

  Pros

  Easy and very fast to install. No problem(s) and no error(s). StartIsBack does not make changes in your Windows installation, it only adds a startbutton with the menu's. There is no slower boot up than normal and the search function works perfect. SartIsBack only cost $2.99 for one licence, with all future updates for free.

  There are no cons.

  Summary

  I finally found the best start button program among many, which all have disadvantages like disable the Windows search and starting Windows slower. StartIsBack is also compatible with Windows 8 according Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant.

• A Glimmer of Hope for those who buy new PC's

  Pros

  Most people I know will not buy a new computer due to them having Windows 8. I myself bought a laptop at the last minute while Windows 7 was still available installed. I have tried this program on my Windows 8 running in Virtual Machine and I am happy to say that it will return sanity to your non-tablet computer experience. You can use it for 30 days trial. I myself bought a 5-pack of licenses because I do computer repair and I know as time goes by I will be getting calls from people desperate to figure out their new computer. $10 for 5 PC's...do yourself and friends/family a favor and buy 5 and help others out!

  If Windows 8 gives you a splitting headache like it does me, please try this software out! Unlike Stardock's software, it makes it so you don't have to see that horrible interface ever again!

  Pros

  It gets around that stupid metro interface and allows me to actually access all programs in the desktop environment. And it allows you to open a new program when you have a window maximized in the Desktop mode.

  Cons

  Nothing really. Nothing at all. Nope. Nada.

  Summary

  It brings back real functionality of using Windows. Microsoft was stupid for getting rid of the start menu (or not replacing it with something equally functional). Now you can get around their idiocy.

  Pros

  Can be configured to look just like Windows 7, icons are the same, programs on start control panel. Its well worth the cost.

  Cons

  None its cheap and very easy to use.

  Summary

  I tried all the others, each one had its draw backs. Some are hard to remove icons look strange didn't give full desktop function. This is great.
