It doesn't have the speediest scan time, but this Registry cleaning tool looks good, performs well, and will appeal to the novice and the expert user alike. RegScrubXP's clean, logical, and informational interface is one of the best we've tested in this genre. The interface uses large easy-to-read text function buttons. Found information is displayed in a spreadsheet format. Columns are easily resized, but can't be sorted. Novice users can well use the application with just a pair of functions, but the program includes many tools for advanced users.

RegScrubXP's Registry scan isn't the fastest we've tested, but it's still speedy enough to satisfy most users. The program displays the section, key, and problem description for every bad Registry key. It takes just a pair of clicks to select all found problems and remove them. Advanced users can just as easily choose a problem and click to browse to the key's folder or Registry entry. Another function click adds selected keys to an exclusion folder while that folder is as easily emptied. The application stores deleted key information, and it's easy to return selected keys by deletion date.

An advanced function displays keys and additional information by Registry section. RegScrubXP outstrips many of the pay-for-use programs in the registry cleaning category. It's surprising that it's free. We can easily recommend this solid cleaning tool to any user looking to keep the Registry in shape.

It really scrubs the registry, but...

Pros
An excellent registry cleaner. It really scrubs the registry and removes junk left by programs and which is ignored by the best registry cleaners. It moved 3000+ entries from my pc when I first run it. System tweaks work perfectly well and show a noticeable performance improvement.
Cons
In scrubbing the registry it demolished a couple of programs on the way which had to be reinstalled. Norton Ghost is one of them. Registry Compact option is deadly. It worked but my PC never started after that. It gave the blue screen each time and was impossible to even reach safe mode no matter how many tricks I tried. Eventually, I recovered by doing a complete system restore with Norton Ghost recovery disc. After scrubbing the registry I used a different defrag program which worked smoothly. Registry search hangs and kills the PC. Solved with a reboot. But to be fair I must say I am using W7 64 so maybe these problems are caused because the program is not meant for W7.
Summary
Can improve the PC performance quite a bit but use with care and make sure you have a system copy at hand. Do not rely on a registry backup because you may not have the chance to access it like it happened in my case.
I have tried several. This one has not failed me yet.

Well it just goes to show...You can't please all the people all the time. I say this after reading the other peoples mixed reviews. IT's tidy, it's reliable,it incorporates good programming practice when it comes to looking after your very valuable registry. Which should not be messed with. If you can't stand the heat of the Hive stay of your keyboard and leave it to the best Free Scrubber on the continent.

Supposed to write about possible negatives here but I'm finding that difficult especially when people say irrelevant things about speed. I ask myself do these people not defrag or complete anti malware or anti-virus full disc scans which on my speedy machine can take well over an hour as opposed to a few minutes for a registry "floss". Oh well If I have to be negative I guess I do prefer the previous user interface to the new one. 'nough said.
Summary
If you are going to potentially entrust the safety of your operating system to a free utility rather than a 'payed'utility. My money would be on RegScrubXP.......If you get my drift!

This is a great useful tool for windows XP, I am glad to get to use it.

This Update does not work on windows XP, No button fuctions, display problem, if you can find the old version For XP install it and try it works great and is a very useful tool for windows.

Do not judge the program from this update, it isn't fuctionable with all operating systems but i have used this program for 6 to 8 years and it is a very dependable useful tool for windows, i really like it and hope i get to continue to use it for free.

It takes up the whole screen and limiting your access to the other controls. Did I say controls, their confusing.

I've had to unload this new version, and went back to the old original easier version.

when I get it to work if it works like the prior version then I love the deep clean that it pull out things others do not. I also liked in the old one that I could change some of the misc setting in windows xp.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Feb 26, 2010<p/>Just tried again and net framework 3.5 will not install and the screen resolution is not compatible with my screen and I see others are having the same problem. Great program in older versions, -- hope they resolve this issue.
