R-Linux is a free data recovery and undelete utility for Ext2FS/3FS (Linux) file systems. File recovery after power failure, system crash, virus infection, or partition reformation, even for the different file system. Unformat and unerase tool. The utility creates image files an entire disk, partition or its part. Such drive image can be processed like regular drive. It features recognition and parsing of Dynamic (Windows 2000/XP), Basic and BSD (UNIX) partitions layout schema, and localized names support. Recovered files can be saved on any (including network) disks accessible by the host operating system.

- Intuitive interface - Installs smoothly - No abrupt errors & shutdown of program (like Purana File Recovery did TWICE) - Swift recovery of deleted and lost files, while executing 4 other recovery programs at the same time, who were going to take extra hours to display the results (and who'd already taken hours to search through the directories), not to mention they might have not found the files (some didn't) - Doesn't damage the files

Pros
Program is as advertised. Recovered all my files from a Linux setup in a Buffalo NAS - Link Station Live. Easy to use within Windows in Explorer environment. did not need to use help pages, pretty intuitive User Interface.
Cons
Could have offered more options during recovery, but I am not complaining as it was FREE!
Summary
As bit of background, my Buffalo NAS stopped appearing on my network one morning. Quick call to Tech Support showed that the product was out of warranty and mother board was fried. Was advised that the Hard Drive was probably okay. Disaasembled the box and removed the hard drive and hooked it up to a laptop with appropriate USB cabling/powersupply ($20 on Amazon). First program that I tried to recover with was Linux Reader, which only showed the partitions and that the drive was avaialbe, but was not able to see any files. Contacted several hard drive recovery companies and was advised a minimum of $200 for an estimate. Then I downloaded and tried R-Linux free recovery. I recovered everything. Approximately 100,000 files including pictures, music and other important documents. I lost the entire folder structure and heirarchy, but recovered all the individual files...a small inconvenience compared to the huge disaster that I was staring at. Learnt my lesson and have set up a NAS with a mirror drive. I highly recommend R-Linux.

Pros
This was able to recover my files from and old hard drive and transferred them to a working hard drive when all trials failed. This is not limited to files of 64kb.

The help files were excellent, although I barely needed them. Recovered 80,880 of 86,311 files from a corrupt Fedora installation, most importantly it recovered the files and allowed me to save them on to another drive with the filenames and directory structure intact. This is a very well designed and thought out utility. Recovered files that a paid application could not recover. This is a utility for a corrupted file system - if you are experiencing a hardware failure READ the instructions and warnings that come with the program.
