CNET Editors' review
This handy tool lets you securely store your user IDs and passwords in a secure database. Password Protection has a neat and uncomplicated interface that lets you arrange your passwords in user-specified categories. Information including address, username, and password is arranged in a simple table. Password Protection offers ample security measures such as password-protection for the program, masking the password under the password column, and automatically locking the interface when it's minimized or after a period of inactivity. You'll also find a handy password generator to create random, and more secure, passwords for your accounts. A search tool locates entries by description, user ID, or password. Password Protection can be used by any security-conscious user, and it's offered as freeware.Publisher's Description

"Very simple entry format."
Version: Password Protection 4.1.3
Pros
If you choose to enter URL with corresponding user ID and password, program will automatically have your browser go there, or just copy user ID and password to clipboard for automatic entry.
Cons
While you can add columns for more info for each entry, apparently you are limited as to how many rows (entries) you can have.
BIG CON: tracking down merkinawards.com current (2010) web site! ! !Summary
Ease of use is a big plus.

"Not As Good As Other Free Password Programs"
Version: Password Protection 4.1.3
Pros
Advertised Blowfish 448 encryption.
VERY basic interface and features.
Software is free but you have to go to their website and register to get a free key.
Cons
It does the job, but its interface is not as easy or as clean as programs like Anypassword and Access Manager 2. Also this program lacks the extra fields and comments section that Anypassword and Access Manager 2 have.

"Frustrated with the product."
Version: Password Protection 4.1.3
Cons
It locked me out of the software. I went to the site it suggested and found nothing. Couldn't find Password Protection V4.1. I couldn't fine the serial number, nor the key. Read Me docutment was useless.

"Works nicely - but then locks you out!"
Version: Password Protection 4.1.3
Pros
-It seemed to be a very nice and easy program to use right when you start with it; a quick way to keep all your passwords in one place when you use a lot of different logins.
Cons
-The very big downfall of this program is that after about a week, you log in and it tells you that you must register. Okay, it's supposed to be free, but the "website" they have listed does not even EXIST. This supposed serial key is impossible to gain, and the program stays frozen, locking you out of actually accessing any of the information you have stored.
-I highly recommend that NO ONE downloads this again. It's, in essence, a waste of time and space on your computer. You end up losing all those entered passwords. This should not even be listed on download.com

"Scam"
Version: Password Protection 4.1.3
Pros
The software appears to work at first...
Cons
...Then it locks you out. Their are links in the in the program to get a serial number and key but it's just a scam to get you hit up their fake website.

"Registration code nowhere to be found"
Version: Password Protection 4.1.3
Pros
At first I thought this program was great. It had a great way to keep track of IDs and passwords. I used a few times over the 30 day "trial-period". I never bothered to register while I was using it. I started putting passwords in there without writing them down anywhere. Then I opened it up a few days after the trial period and it locked all of the functions and told me to register. When I went to the Merkin Awards website, I found that domain name is no longer registed. I found the last cached page on the internet archive is from 2005. So I did what any Microsoft user would do, I set the clock backward a few days. When I opened the application again, everything was available again. So at least I got my passwords back.
Cons
Merkin Awards website no longer exists for users to register.
Owner needs to remove registration locks from software.
No technical support.

"Terrible"
Version: Password Protection 4.1.3
Pros
Easy Interface. But have been doing the same exact thing in MS Word.
Cons
Everytime I log in it says "incorrect username/password and I know it is not. Keep having to install new username/password. When trying to go to help online it takes you to the mfg. site with links to OTHER sites. No help.
