Notesbrowser

CNET Editors' review

by: CNET staff on June 01, 2009

Notesbrowser attempts to pull several different organizational functions under one roof, and the end result is somewhat overwhelming. Even the publisher notes that there's a learning curve involved, and you have to be prepared to spend some time with the Help file if you want to understand this program.

Notesbrowser begins on the wrong foot with a cluttered interface full of boxes, lists, and text. Users are advised to take several minutes to simply look over the options, because tabs and subcategories are certain to appear out of the background. The program offers ways to manage downloaded music, contacts, and Web links, create simple notes, and maintain your calendar. Notesbrowser showcases all of these at once, which can get extremely confusing. We were turned off after several minutes of experimenting trying to add information to the contacts section. This isn't a program you should try and pick up on your own. Spend some time with the Help file before you start playing around. Once we had some data entered, the program's individual components worked fine. Web links launch, notes are organized, and appointments and tasks are displayed.

There are plenty of ways to customize how the program looks, so once you become familiar with how it works, you can select the view that works best for you. Advanced users can use the free-form tool to further customize displays.

The steep learning curve and cluttered interface make it hard for us to recommend this program, even with the generous 60-day trial. While it worked in the end, we suggest that you try other organizational tools before paying up for Notesbrowser.

Publisher's Description

From Wave Digital Studios:

Notesbrowser is a helpful, fast-access systems tray Freeform Organizer for making and storing quick notes and organizing dates. The tool has a calendar and many fields, where you can store, for example, to-do-lists, dates, bookmarks, or your mp3-playlists. A integrated search function allows it to find your entries. Notesbrowser can remind you to dates. A number of cool skins are available, to change the surface the way you prefer. All in all, Notesbrowser offers you an easy way to enter and manage your dates, addresses and notes at one place. Fool-proof installation within 15 seconds. Small learning curve: Comes along with a tutorial. It's that simple that you will understand it in five minutes.
