Version: Microsoft Windows Defender 1.1.1593
Pros: Dramatically improved database over the last couple months. It is the anti-spyware half of Microsoft Security Essentials, a highly rated antivirus by PC World.com. Heuristic protection has really improved as well.
Cons: You can improve a Yugo but still not be saying much.
Summary: PC World.com rates Microsoft Security Essentials' anti-spyware capabilities at detecting about 90% of the spyware and adware they threw at it which is a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over previous Defender/Essentials versions. Heuristic behavior proactive bloc... read more >>

"Windows Defender... I Don't Know If It Really Works..."
Pros: It's easy to use. It's easy to install. It updates often.
Cons: It's never found anything. Despite a virus infection, it never alerted. Thankfully, MalwareBytes program caught the problem and fixed my machine. I should note that Avast didn't find it either.
Summary: I keep it installed and running. It doesn't seem to use any resources so, why not....

Version: Microsoft Windows Defender 1.1.1593
"Good Spyware Prevention and Removal."
Pros: The detection rate seems decent and removes good. Great if you purchased Windows Vista and had to do a clean install and are unprotected do to reinstalling everything. I tested this on spycar.org and removed everything with no leftovers.
Cons: If you have vista and don't want it you can't remove it as its built into the OS. Also has a thing called spynet which sends anonymous info about your computer and if you are a pirate beware as it may transfer information about such products.
Summary: Spynet helps Microsoft keep safe databases and avoid problems like false positives and sends information about your computer to help fix them. The main problem is that you can't turn it off. Microsoft says that no information is used to identify you... read more >>

Version: Microsoft Windows Defender 1.1.1593
Pros: Dont like anything about this.
Cons: This thing couldnt catch a cold.
I tried it by downloading spyware and tracking cookies.Hardly caught any.Summary: I disabled it months ago and decided to give it a try again.Honestly its pathetic.
Its disabled again and thats how its going to be from now on.
I'm sticking with SuperAntiispyware Pro. -
Version: Microsoft Windows Defender 1.1.1593
Pros: Run fast and quiet in realtime.
Cons: When you are downloading software, it asks you if you want to permit this program or that when you just clicked and chose to download something.
Summary: Sometimes, for no reason, the daily scan will not run for several days. It will interupt while programs and updates are downloading to ask if you want to permit a download that you chose to download in the first place even if the program is not spyw... read more >>
