Editors' review

MediaHuman Audio Converter for Mac handles the task of converting audio file formats in a simple application. Designed to provide cross-conversion capabilities for WMA, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG and Apple Lossless formats, MediaHuman Audio Converter for Mac is a free app that will likely become a staple if you need to convert audio files frequently.

MediaHuman Audio Converter for Mac installs cleanly. The interface is simple and attractive. Select the audio file (or use drag and drop to drop the file over the app), set the format you want to convert to, and let it run. The predefined conversion parameters will meet almost all user's needs, but for tweakers or those with special requirements you can modify the conversion parameters quite a bit. MediaHuman Audio Converter for Mac also lets you capture the audio track from video files (selecting the audio you want in case there are multiple tracks). In our testing, MediaHuman Audio Converter for Mac converted hundreds of files without problem (you can batch multiple files and let the app crunch away), and the resultant converted files all played successfully in iTunes (something that can't be said for all audio conversion apps on the market).

MediaHuman Audio Converter for Mac is free, with no limitations or paid extra-capability upgrades. The publisher should be completed on a clean design and solid functionality. They also seem to pay attention to bug fixes and feature requests from users, which is always a delight to see. For converting audio files, MediaHuman Audio Converter for Mac may become our standard app.

    "Works well"

    March 15, 2014   |   By tish369

    Version: MediaHuman Audio Converter 1.8.9

    Pros

Works quickly, clean and intuitive interface, does everything it's supposed to. At first I was bugged that all the converted music was dropped into one folder, but being able to just drag one folder to iTunes is really efficient. Definitely download this.

    Cons

If you want your converted files cleaned up into different folders, you might be looking at a little bit of work.

    Version: MediaHuman Audio Converter 1.8

    Pros

    simple, free, clean interface

    Cons

    none for me

    Summary

Hd trouble for converting some files from HD TRACKS into AAC 256, from within iTunes 9 out of 12 would convert but the other 3 repeatedly failed. Did this with the MediaHuman converter, and it worked first time.

"Efficient, simple, & non-bloating free Mac transcoding."

    November 16, 2012   |   By timothynicholasjones

    Version: MediaHuman Audio Converter 1.7.5

    Pros

Allows transcoding from WMA Lossless to ALAC Apple Lossless in m4a container.
    Free to use.
    Relatively fast conversions.
    Simple GUI.

    Cons

Allows you to select destination directory for file outputs but then saves new files into source directory anyway against your preference. Bug needs fixing.

    Summary

The work around I've been doing is duplicating the highest tier directory. (Which took 20 hours since I have 300gb of music). Then transcoding the files of the duplicate folder while directing MediaHuman to remove the original files once transcoded. It's a messy and time consuming way to make the program work as intended. But the output file size of the ALAC lossless files are only slightly bloated over the original WMA Lossless files. And it's free and new so I assume it'll get better with updates.

    Updated on Nov 16, 2012

Also, I should mention it does not utilize the album art 'hidden' files in the WMA album folders so the new .m4a files have no album art embedded in their metadata. This is a huge issue for me as I have 1000 full albums ALL of which have the correct album art (I sometimes had to insert manually by searching the internet). The albums are from different countries around the world. I did it right because I care. itunes does not care, and it is outright stupid when you give it various artist albums from countries other than the US.

    Updated on Nov 17, 2012

After extra effort I found that importing more than 20+ files would result in the application crashing mid-way through some transcodes. And trying to import more than 50+ files at a time would freeze the application entirely. Maybe this will be fixed too along with the failed export function?

I have paid for Flip4Mac Pro and had no luck either. I have tried so many programs to do this it is unbelievable. Seriously, there must be something available for those of us that now have Mac's but originally ripped in WMA lossless and need to convert to ALAC?
