"My Go-To Spam-buster for Outlook Express since 2003!"
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
I've been using this program since 2003 when I needed to do some serious spam-busting before I downloaded my email via Outlook Express. Since I first used the program, I've used it with every new computer I've owned. Gives you the ability to screen, bounce, delete and bouce -and-delete. I find the complaints puzzling... I guess if you just use webmail, you simply do not need this.
Cons
None. If you use webmail, you don't need this. If you download your email to your PC, this is a great program to screen and/or bouce your emails before downloading.
Summary
If you use Windows Live Mail (or formerly Outlook Express), this program is a godsend and you'll use it all the time. If you use webmail, then you don't need this, just be quiet and use your webmail instead of putting a good program down just because you personally don't need it. Save negative comments for crappy programs, thanks.

"Great Except for the advertising"
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
All the features you need. You just have to enable them. Use the forums to figure out the best way. I get hundreds of spams a day. Mailwasher pro gets it down to a few decisions while they're still on the server.
Cons
Advertising on the screen. It's so good it's a no brainer if you get a lot of spam. The bounce feature is one to avoid as it lets spammers know they found a live address. Just forget about that.
Summary
Buy it if you get a lot of spam and your life will be a lot eisier.

"Free washer does not work"
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
None The earlier free version worked for years. This new one does not work EVER!!!!!
Cons
lots of work for nothing
Summary
Tried it 6 or 7 times. Never worked. But the PRO works right away.
That's how they get you. -
"Seems to work okay, appears to have some glitches..."
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
1)I like that it catches & labels emails "spam" or "good". Most of which it does correctly.
2)Also like bouncing this "junk" back to the spammers.
3)It works sufficiently with my main Hotmail account which gets the bulk of my messages.
4)I have other email accounts linked to my Hotmail account, they too got checked. Meaning that, even though the "free" version allows for only 1 email address, I get all my accounts that are linked filtered. Great Plus!Cons
1)Set up took awhile to figure out, using the different options and how they affected what the program was doing.
2)Doesn't open my email account in Firefox, it opens in IE, which I rarely use.
3)When I open this program 1st, I still find that I have junk email in my Hotmail account, which I then have to move to my inbox w/o opening, of course, go back to Mailwasher and have it re-check the mail to catch the invader. Seems to defeat the idea of preventing "spam" from reaching your PC if you have to go thru this process, but this maybe apart of the programs learning process.Summary
I installed this "free" version on 1/20/2012.
After figuring out the POP and SMTP settings for my Hotmail account and clearing my "inbox" of 8500+ messages, I set about trying this.
I was very satisfied with it initially, but noticed that, occasionally there were glitches that showed "error" codes when I would open it to check my mail. Some messages that had been labeled friend or foe previously, would come back requiring designation again.
Jury is still out on this program for me, so I don't see my self paying for the "pro" version until I get a better feel for whether this is actually stopping junk or at least catching it w/o me having to open my regular account and moving it to my "inbox".
Because I cleaned my emails out, I'm hoping that some of my experience with this program is from it "learning" what's what.
Finally, I would say that if you don't mind tweaking the program to better suit your needs, this maybe for you.
It's definitely not a download 'n go deal. -
"WORTHLESS!!!"
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
Uhhhhhh, can't think of any.
Cons
As stated by other users this will only work with 1 program which already has good spam filtering. Will not work with yahoo mail, hotmail, gmail, etc.
Summary
Total waste of time & unnecessary mucking of computer. Embarrassing program!
-
"Not useful."
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
Unknown. Did not have installed long enough to use.
Cons
Only services one e-mail account. I use seven.
Summary
Uninstalled right after I found out the above.

"Very useful and saves problems"
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
The fact that a user can delete useless emails before they get into your machine and cause problems.
Cons
Find that the learner sometimes does not always recognize a friend, and marks it as an item to be deleted
Summary
Enjoy the program and will probably purchase it at the end of the trial period.

"Problems with latest version"
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
I've used mailwasher free for years and it is a great program
Cons
It seems to have changed and have lots of glitches now
Summary
Mailwasher free completely garbled my inbox, mixing up the message bodies and senders in a crazy fashion and removing all formatting from messages. Some message bodies contain one message from another sender after another. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but Norton will not allow me to install the version here- identifies it as WS.Viral.1 and labels the download "bad reputation." So given the recent problems and this, I guess I will not reinstall it. I will miss mailwasher- a lot! I'm not sure if the paid version has these problems but I don't want to try it and find out that it does.

"I uninstalled it within an hour"
Version: MailWasher Free 6.5.4
Pros
No good things to say about it
Cons
Can't remember why I uninstalled it, but there was something about MailWasher that made me decide within an hour that I did not want it on my computer.
Summary
I would not recommend it.
