Perform a security surveillance with an unlimited number of WDM, DV, and Network cameras.

ContaCam is Security Surveillance and Live Webcam solution for Windows that supports an unlimited number of WDM, DV and Network cameras. The Motion detection events are presented as animated thumbnails in a web interface through the integrated web server and it's possible to configure various motion detection actions like FTP upload, send e-mail with attached movement file or run an external program. This program performs live snapshots with the possibility of history tracking (all the past snapshots are recorded as a daily flash movie playable inside the web interface). For the beginner there is an easy three steps Assistant which asks about the usage, the name and how long to keep the files; for the experts there are dozens of settings and the program can be configured to run as a windows service.

Current version (5.0.9) is flawed on my PC.

Pros
Can't really give any Pros with this version because I didn't have it installed long enough to review it (see cons). However, I love this app, just can't upgrade.
Cons
Malwarebytes anti-ransomware reports a problem with this version after it runs a few minutes,. Also, when I reboot my PC, I get a permissions error on Dropbox, and it won't load. I re-installed this new version of ContaCam twice, and got the same errors. I went back to 5.0.3 and have had no problems.
Summary
I don't know what is causing the problems on my PC with 5.0.9, but I will try a new upgrade if one is released. I like the app, but for some reason the newest release doesn't get along with my PC. I'm running Windows 10.

The best I have tried and I use it to set up a few CCTVs.

Not sure whether the software can take up a few webcams concurrently.
Summary
I needed a CCTV, a discreet one, and this is the best software I can find. I use it for both wired webcam and wireless IP webcam, I can record hours of clips. Just that I am using two laptops for two webcams as I haven't explored whether it can take multiple webcams using one laptop.

i'd never used anything like this, and had a set of expectations of what i thought a security program should do. this met them all perfectly and impressed me with how customizable all of those things were.

i was hoping i could set all 3 of my webcams across my 2 computers and have a fully customizable security cam solution that would let me instantly store data remotely and access it with a web interface. this does exactly that, perfectly and simply. the way you adjust sensitivity (when the program picks up motion and saves it) is perfect - way more simple than i would have expected. you can adjust video and audio quality and video size, and it's very simple and straightforward even with the very wide variety of choices. it lets you know how much HD space your current choices will take, live as you choose them. and the way it actually works when you've got it set up and running - this stuff is perfect. and it's clean. who would build a program like this and give it away rather than sell it, just so they could put a trojan on it that more people would pick up if they upped a file called 'nakedladies.exe'? not these guys, anyway - this proggie's clean. why aren't more people using this?

Pros
Records AVI's and takes snap shots when it detects movement. Easy setup, found my IP camera no problem. I purchased a Wanscam camera, the software it comes with is appauling, it was a great relief to find this on C-Net. Well done guys. Easy settings interface with plenty of options.
Cons
I wish you could set up a more comprehensive recording schedule rather that just 1 'from' 'to', but at least there is an option to start new recordings at varying intervals from 1 hour.
Summary
No trojan found as previously informed. Did you de-select the 'Full install' and select the 'Advanced Install' and de-select that trojan filled, keylogging, worm ridden "WhiteSmoke" task bar everyone on the internet scrams about?

Pros
I had some fear about this software containing a virus noted by another reviewer but no virus was found. Seems to do everything that the paid for programs do but this is free with no ads or pop-ups and no intrusive registration.
Cons
I have just started using this product so I have not had the time to really test it to find out if there are any problems with it. Supports multiple network cams but has special rules for multiple USB cams.
Summary
I have a single USB webcam and a PC with Windows Vista. I wanted to use my webcam to watch my yard and wanted to do it for free. I looked at all the webcam recording software available and found that there were not many fully functional programs for free. I saw ContaCam is it looked exactly like what I wanted. Has many features such as movement detection or manual mode, recording scheduler if you want, audio storage if you want, snapshot mode, video streaming to the web and more. I did not have to add any exceptions to my Norton Security Suite to run this product. Seems to be a full featured product. I think that this product will work fine for a live cam in a web page. It appears that you can set up the software to view your cam while away and I hope to set that up with my iPhone. I read the online user manual at www.contaware.com which is the support site for this product. I also saw the review stating that there was a virus embedded in the program. I looked at the ContaCam support site which is www.contaware.com and I see that some versions of Kaspersky or AVG will report a virus. I don't use those but I do have the current version of Norton Security Suite with the latest updates. I downloaded the program and scanned the executable and Norton did not report a virus. I installed ContaCam, verified that it worked and played with some of the setting for an hour. I then verified that my Norton had the latest updates and then ran a full system virus scan using Norton Anti Virus. No viruses were detected. I feel confident that there are no viruses in this software. I would suggest that you always download the software from download.cnet.com in order to be sure that the copy you are installing has not been altered. This program has the ability to notify you when motion is detected by the cam. To try out that feature, I went to the "Movement Detection" tab in the settings screen and there are many options to change detection sensitivity as well as set a time of day for detection if you don't want it to monitor movement all day. There is an option to "Send Email" on detection and in the send to email address I put my iPhone number as: xxxxxxxxxx@txt.att.net (areacode+7@txt.att.net). In the from field, I put my name and email address. Then I put the name of my SMTP server that I use from Comcast which is: smtp.comcast.net. Below that I put my email address and Comcast password. Then I hit the Test button and voila, I got a test text saying that motion had been detected sent to my iPhone about 10 seconds later. That means that once my cam is setup, I know that I can be texted that there was motion detected by the cam. I should be able to easily create a button on my iPhone that allows me to directly view the video of the detection event and watch what happened. I am happy with this software. There are several screens with options to allow you to configure the software how you want. I like that fact that this product is completely free with no user time limits, no ads or popups, no membership or registration requiring email address or requiring personal information to be submitted to the software maker. On installation, there are some check boxes asking if you want to install Bing and Chrome but I believe those options are part of the CNET installation program and not part of the ContaCam installation software. Just uncheck those boxes if you don't want that extra software to be installed.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Sep 2, 2011<p/>ContaCam does not contain the SHeur4.HU trojan! I recently downloaded the software and have spent hours working with the ContaCam program. I updated my Norton Security Suite and did another complete system scan. After the scan, no problems were found. I am confident that there are no viruses or malware in ContaCam.

Cons
Did a virus scan after installing. It contains the SHeur4.HU trojan! Come on, guys! You make something amazing like this and put a trojan in it? I'd pay for this if it weren't a hazard to my computer... Jerks :/

This software is the best I have tried. It is simple to use, updates are awesome and from the start it is a very professional with a top notch help section and set-up. Want snap shots or 24 hour surveillance then this is everything you could want? Used it for 30 minutes and that was enough time to convince me it was a keeper. Thank you ContaCam for this software.
