    "Far better alternatives ..."

    April 17, 2007   |   By Silent One

    Version: InqScribe 2.0.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have to be frank - if you're a Mac user, you can do far better than InqScribe for far less. InqScribe is a Mac and Windows app (and it shows) with a US $99 price tag. Two alternatives are Express Scribe (free) and Transcriva (US $20). Though Express Scribe is alright, it suffers the same cross-platform ugliness and felt like it was missing some Mac polish. I ultimately settled on Transcriva because it's a pure Mac app by a pure Mac company (see their "about" page), because of its slick interface (yes, that matters a great deal to me) and its support for multiple "speakers" (the human kind, not the audio kind). For twenty bucks, it was well worth it. InqScribe looks and feels clunky, is feature-starved, and generally doesn't even come close to either Express Scribe or Transcriva and yet it costs at least five times more than the competition. Why?

    Transcriva (best, IMO):

    Express Scribe (free):
