Publisher's Description
From Identity Finder:
Identity Finder helps you prevent identity theft by finding private information on your computer and prompting you to either securely delete or encrypt the data it uncovers. It uses proprietary search algorithms to uncover multiple variations of private information such as social security numbers, credit cards, bank accounts, and passwords automatically and without requiring you to enter any information. Simple to follow wizards walk you through the process.

Cons

"Works for me!"
Version: Identity Finder Home Edition 3.2
Pros
This program works so well it scares the tar out of you! It was well worth the small charge to buy it. After all - how much is your credit worth to you?
Cons
It opens up you computer to a vulnerability. After all - if you have it installed the cracker can use this very program to find the information too! You've just help make his job easier by installing the crackware ahead of time.
Summary
This program is phenominal, it does what I've suspected the crackers do all the time by simply reading your hard drive with an algorythm that finds you logon data, Social Secutity numbers, Credit card numbers, and other dangerous personal imformation. If they would just make Identity Finder password protectable using NTFS security standards, it would be the BOMB!!
Got an anti-keylogger or anti-video capture program? Won't do a bit of good with this tech. All the cracker has to do is look for the info and BAM! He can ship it out on Port 80, IM, or email without you even knowing it!!!
I use this program to erase the information and then I uninstall it, so the crackers can't use it against me. Keeping the install files on a ZIP disk or CD would be the smartest way to use this program; so you can use it and uninstall it immediately after ward.
As soon as I figure out how to use Comodo's iVault I will not have to worry about sending dangerous information out on the web as it encrypts this information and you can enter it through web forms and such. But I haven't got that down pat yet. If you used a similar program you wouldn't have to run it anymore after that, presuming your utility actually works that is.
You could also prevent most of this by buying an AV suite like Symantec or Trend Micro that has "Private data Protection" - they may call it something different but it keeps the same information from being sent out on non SSL communications on port 80(regular internet), Internet Messenger, or email. However these bloated suites have become such a pain I refuse to use them anymore, and all experts agree that only a blended in-depth defense is the best way to protect you and your computer. Identity Finder, Snoopfree Privacy Shield, and a good firewall/encryption utility like Comodo/iVault is part of that arsenal.
I do not work for the developers of Identitly Finder, I just hate crackers, and internet security ingnorance! A look at my other reviews will bear that out, I'm sure you will agree! Comodo is free but I don't work for them either, so don't even go there. -
"Worked fast"
Version: Identity Finder Home Edition 2.5
Pros
It found three cards and ten passwords. Wow.
But then Vista Premium reported that the program error was encountered and had to close. Bummer. Anyway I do know that my PC has problems and so will take further action. Thanks ID Finder!
Cons
It closed prematurely due to an unknown error. I'm glad it was just the trial version.

"Gives you knowledge of what your computer is doing behind your back."
Version: Identity Finder Home Edition 2.3.1
Pros
Found personal info I had no idea was on my computer - scary - I
thought when I upgraded to Firefox I stopped saving info, but it had tons
of saved credit card numbers and passwords too. Let me easily secure what
I wanted to keep and shred everything else. Results wizard was clear and
easy to use and the help really explained how to set up all the advanced
features.
Cons
The very first time I ran it, the first wizard had too many steps to get
started (I just kept clicking next, and it worked, but a simple "start" or
"quick start" would be better)

"Awesome for removing personal information from laptops"
Version: Identity Finder Home Edition 2.3.1
Pros
We do business in many of the states that have passed legislation about notification of data leakage. So I use this on every laptop in our IT department before we need to dispose of it or send back to vendor. Usually kick off huge search overnight and in the morning select all and very quickly shred everything it finds. Also personally worried about identity theft and used it on my personal computer and found a few social security number and password matches I definitely didn't want getting into the wrong hands - They are gone now!
Cons
none

"Essential identity theft prevention software everyone should run. Great product!"
Version: Identity Finder Home Edition 2.3.1
Pros
Really great product that found so many instances of my private information - I had no idea I left so many on my laptop. It is scary to think what someone could have done with my identity if I lost my laptop before running this. I wish I could run this on friends and coworkers computers too! Great product!
Cons
doesn't work on Mac!
