CNET Editors' review
Hard Drive Inspector Professional keeps all of your system's attributes and hard disk health information in one, nicely wrapped package. However, we found a minor discrepancy with the information it provided us.
The user interface is beautifully designed, with large command buttons at the top for saving and sending data reports, and configuration options. Tabs organized the diagnostic information into three categories: Health Summary, Technical Info, and S.M.A.R.T. Details. From the Health Summary window, we got a brief summary of the amount of available space left on our hard disks, our disk model, and the temperature; although the temperature given on the main interface did not match the temperature given on our taskbar. But beyond that, we were able to view, in detail, our hard disk information, including serial, model, and firmware numbers, as well as logical and physical geometry info. The S.M.A.R.T. Details listed our system's attributes, along with their current stages, values, and flags.
The Help file does offer more detailed explanations of the program's features, so you don't have to be an expert to know how to read the information it provides. Though we would have liked to have seen a trial period longer than 14 days, we still recommend this program as a worthy diagnostic tool.

"BEWARE OF THIS SOFTWARE COMPANY"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector Professional 3.87 build 393
Pros
I downloaded the program and it did do what it said it would do, which as it turned out, wasn't all that much.
Cons
I tried to get it off my hard drive and could not find the thing in control remove. I finally found it by doing a search and then tried to remove it, no deals. The companies web page is in Russia. It seems like they fixed it so I couldn't remove it,
Summary
Don't download.

"Piece of cr@p"

Cons

"Runs well on Windows 7."
Version: Hard Drive Inspector Professional 3.32 build 259
Pros
The most recent version runs well on Windows 7 Ultimate, and reports correctly on one of my external drives (Western Digital)- the previous version did not report correctly on this drive.
Cons
Reads both internal SATA drives and one external USB drive but not the other which is a similar age and the same brand.
Website not very informative but tech support responds reasonably quickly to requests for assistance.Summary
I am not sure why it does not report on both external WD drives. Living in a very hot climate, I appreciate the ability to monitor HD temp, and to know when to turn off my external continuous backup drive which reaches near critical temperature on hot days.
A useful asset for hot climate computing, and for monitoring the health of older hard drives. -
"Failed To Recognize Drive"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector Professional 3.30 build 250
Pros
Review of product seems to indicate a solid program.
Cons
Program would not recognize / detect the hard drive in my computer! Not sure what the problem is, but could not get the program to work at all. Running Vista Home Premium 32-bit, SP2.
Summary
Just wish I could have gotten this program to work. I do not doubt the valuable information that this program provides, but if it can't even detect the drive in my computer from the start, then nothing can be gained. Does state Vista compatible, but perhaps just not with SP2. Most likely a software conflict.

"Software did not detect my hard drive"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector Professional 2.102 build 486
Pros

"Works, but provides little tech info on drives."
Version: Hard Drive Inspector Professional 2.9 build 467
Pros
Runs without crashing or crashing XP.
Cons
Does not provide much in the way of tech info on the drives, their performance, etc. HD Tune Pro is a MUCH better product for this application.

"Doesn't work on my Vista machine"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector Professional 2.9 build 467
Pros
Seems like a good idea, but doesn't work.
Cons
This software didn't recognize even 1 of my hard drives. The Support site is next to useless. There is not even one post on the forum page. Hopefully this software will work for someone else.
-
"Not compatible with all HDD configurations"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector Professional 2.46 build 423
Pros
None for me
Cons
This software does NOT support SCSI or RAID hard drive arrays. This should be mentioned in the brief summary before downloading.
