Hard Drive Inspector Professional monitors your system's hard disks, SSDs, and USB drives, constantly and in real time. It also ties together a lot of useful capabilities like SMART options, performance settings, and alerts, in one easy-to-navigate user interface.

Pros

Centralized management: Hard Drive Inspector Professional does everything its free competitors do, but from one program and interface.

Reliability estimates: Ongoing reliability estimates, temperature monitoring, and immediate alerts help you anticipate and prevent disk failure and data loss.

Acoustic management: Hard Drive Inspector Professional can make noisy drives quieter, though drive performance might suffer slightly. A slider on the Options dialog shifts from slower/quieter to faster/louder operation.

Cons

Freeware alternatives: Hard Drive Inspector Professional isn't expensive, but similarly capable freeware is available, too.

Backups are better: Hard Drive Inspector Professional points out (correctly) that it helps protect your disks from failure and data loss. But by that logic you'd be better off putting the money toward the cost of a top-shelf backup solution.

The best of the breed

Pros
Tried several HDD monitors during past two years and consider this one the best of them. Some of them show you a lot of technical data which is probably good if you are a techie yourself. This one compresses all those tables into just 3 easy-to-understand HDD health parameters: reliability, performance and error-resistance. I don't need to know some weird "spinup time" info, I just want to know if my disk is gonna crash tomorrow.
Cons
Its Czech interface has some spelling mistakes.

Pros
Simple and easy to use. Saved my data twice since 2007 (in my experience, recently manufactured HDDs are even more unreliable than the older ones, don't know why, should be otherwise). If you have valuable data on your PC you definitely need this prog.
Cons
Don't recognize one of my external USB disks.

It has a simple interface.

I have a hard drive that I know is developing bad blocks, but this software says the drive is in good condition. This software appears to do nothing and does not detect problems as advertised. I have tried to contact their technical support ( support@altrixsoft.com ) on 2/3/12 and sent 2 more requests but I have heard nothing. I also created a support case on their website on 26/3/12 but again I have had no response so far. They are ignoring me on purpose because they don't care.
Summary
Don't bother with this software. If you want to check the status of your hard drive, use the tested tools provided by your manufacturer.

I downloaded the program and it did do what it said it would do, which as it turned out, wasn't all that much.
Cons
I tried to get it off my hard drive and could not find the thing in control remove. I finally found it by doing a search and then tried to remove it, no deals. The companies web page is in Russia. It seems like they fixed it so I couldn't remove it,

Pros
The most recent version runs well on Windows 7 Ultimate, and reports correctly on one of my external drives (Western Digital)- the previous version did not report correctly on this drive.
Cons
Reads both internal SATA drives and one external USB drive but not the other which is a similar age and the same brand. Website not very informative but tech support responds reasonably quickly to requests for assistance.
Summary
I am not sure why it does not report on both external WD drives. Living in a very hot climate, I appreciate the ability to monitor HD temp, and to know when to turn off my external continuous backup drive which reaches near critical temperature on hot days. A useful asset for hot climate computing, and for monitoring the health of older hard drives.

Review of product seems to indicate a solid program.
Cons
Program would not recognize / detect the hard drive in my computer! Not sure what the problem is, but could not get the program to work at all. Running Vista Home Premium 32-bit, SP2.
Summary
Just wish I could have gotten this program to work. I do not doubt the valuable information that this program provides, but if it can't even detect the drive in my computer from the start, then nothing can be gained. Does state Vista compatible, but perhaps just not with SP2. Most likely a software conflict.
