Handy Backup Standard offers users an easy, streamlined approach to backing up important files and folders. Novice users will especially appreciate the program's easy navigation.
The program's user interface doesn't waste your time with too many details. A menu and command toolbar resides at the top of the window. Newly created tasks and their details reside in the panels below the toolbar. A wizard walks you through the process of creating a new task. We were able to quickly add the files that we wanted to backup. From there, we were able to choose the backup location, including external devices such as a USB, CD, or DVD. The program comes with both compression and encryption features. Locating the schedule feature took a little time, but once we found it, we were able to customize our backup schedules on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. The Log feature let us save logs of all of our backups for future reference, a small but important detail we appreciated.
Our only complaint with the program is that it installed icons on our Desktop without our permission. Still, novice users will find useful tips for getting started, and the built-in Help feature is sure to answer any questions. All in all, we highly recommend this program for any user interested in reliable file backup.

Pros
If you reinstall windows or change the hardrivem you have to re-register the program. This does not work since they do not repsond to emails.
Cons
Reliable, versatile and simple interface.
Summary
The pros do not help when one cannot re-install the program.
I belated see that my criticism should have been directed to the Russian splitt-off company NOT to the original US company. Sorry!

Purchased this software and had problems installing it. Support is NON-existant. Will NOT reply to questions. Kiss your money goodbye if you buy from these losers.
I will be spreading the word far and wide about these thieves.Summary
Would not install properly. Support responded to first couple of questions several days later and I guess since they have no idea how to fix the problem have completely quit responding. I am steaming mad and out the money I paid for this. You are throwing your money away if you buy from these people.

I liked the program because of its simplicity.
Cons
I got this program thinking it would solve my problem of backup issues. To date I have it on two computers and it has always had errors during the backup process. I haven't been able to get it to restore what is backuped. Maybe it will get better with each upgrade???

"HORRIBLE Customer Support"

It is a nice program for the money, although they will charge you twice the price to download version that will write DVDs

I have recommended this program to many of my customers, and have bought probably 80 copies, I had a customer who had to reload there machine and was trying to get a copy of serial number to reinstall, Their technical support has not responded to 14 emails and 6 phone calls over the last 3 months, so just know your buying it as is.

Looking back, I did not see I had given a 1 star, not deserved. It is a very good program for the money. One thing I learned is handybackup.com is an American company, while handybackup.net is an overseas company that an exact knockoff. remember which one you bought it from. The .com I know answer emails within a couple days nowadays.

"A good choice of backup software"

I love this software. I recommend it to all my clients. Especially now that it has DVD burning which is great for most
small business. I use it to back up inexpensive NAS's ... It keeps getting better!

"Good, no backup worries anymore"

Reliable backup solution at a good price point and with nothing unnecessary. You pay only for those features you really need. I purchased the DVD+Service version and forgot about lost files as well as about the program itself because it works in the background and does not eat much system resources. I'm 100% happy with running Handy Backup. Well done novosoft, first backup program i've ever liked.

"Disturbing behaviour"

It seemed to be a good program, resembling Backup4all, and with lot of options. Some useful functions that I could not find on rival products made me try.
Cons
I tried to do a backup on one computer and recover on the other and behaviour was troublesome. With a backup program I need total trust, so I just discarded it. Backup4all is way better.

"A backup program that "Phones Home""

Nice interface and basically did most backup sessions although some backup funtions had to be run more than once to complete so the files locally and the files on the server were "Identical"
Cons
This is one of the worst applications I have found to date to reinstall after a system crash, the program has to "phone home" (log into there server) to validate. The validation ALWAYS fails and you have to send them an email to reinstall.
Who want's to wait for an email response when you are trying to get your computer up and running again after a system crash or you got a new computer? Having to register against their server to reinstall is simply very poor programming etiquette - not even Microsoft does this.
Here we have a backup program that you can't even reinstall to restore your critical personal or business files.
I agree with several other comments made about the product by other reviewers. I occasionally reinstall the OS and applications as one other reviewer does
Stay away from this one folks!!!

Good software, but make sure you order from .com site v4.0! This is the US company.
The download above is from the Russian splitoff .net. I've tried emailing the .net many times and have never gotten a response.

About the battle directly from the US company:
The matter is that this version was developed by the group of people involved in an unfair business targeted against our company. Recently we noticed a certain activity of this group. Specifically, a web site at .net contains marketing content that infringes our copyrights. The web site belongs to a Russian company named Novosoft LLC, which is not anyhow related to Novosoft Inc. The content of the web site is a copy of our web site at .com with some changes. Further, they promote and sell Handy Backup product which is a clone copy of one of old versions of our software with the same name. Thus, Novosoft LLC not only infringes our copyrights, but sells lower quality versions of our product under the name of newer versions.
Novosoft Inc. is a corporation organized and existing under the Laws of the State of Texas, USA, with its place of business at 3803 Mount Bonnel, Austin, TX 78731, USA. It is the only legal owner of Handy Backup product and related content. Novosoft Inc. has been using the Handy Backup mark in the international commerce since at least as early as February 2002. This fact can be verified by comparing the registration date of our domain .com (registered almost two years ago) and .net (registered far later).
Please note that Handy Backup 5.2 is nothing else than Handy Backup with built-in third party utility for backup to DVD ("CopytoDVD"). But it is not our policy to build in outer sources in our products. By doing this, we can guarantee full quality control and high performance to users of our products.
