A basic program aimed at helping guitarists expand their repertoire of chords and scales, this download suffers from interface inconveniences that undermine its overall appeal.

Guitar Alchemist offers undeniably useful information, with chord charts and fingerings matched with scales and modes. However, lists of chords and the chord tablature itself are displayed in resolution poor enough to make them look like a bad printout. A "detailed" button simply provides a message saying the feature is disabled in the free version.

We were initially a bit confused by the way scales are presented on the fret board, although practice with the program likely would ease this concern. On the whole, Guitar Alchemist Free could be a useful aid to guitar students, though many users may want to look for something with a more appealing interface.

Guitar Alchemist Free: an awesome way to learn guitar

As a beginner and an older beginner, I have found Guitar Alchemist Free 1.20 to be easy to use and well worth the time in downloading and installing it.
Cons
Guitar Alchemist Free 1.20 is a FREE version, so you do not get all the great features.
Summary
While this a free version and one does not get all the bells and whistles, it is extremely helpful. I guess I should say that it was extremely helpful to this beginner.
Very good for what it is.

It delivers on every thing thath it says it will do. The whole thing is well put together, so it doesn't take long to get used to.
Cons
There are other programs that offer features that this would benefit from, but those aren't free. An excellent source for learning at almost any level.

when you open the program it just says "required fonts missing! please reinstall program". even when you reinstall it several times there is the same problem. might be worth a shot incase its just a problem for me.

This program has every chord known to man, I'm a beginner,and It has everything I need and thousands more. It tells you what every note is supposed to sound like, and it gives you a picture. I know there's a lot of people around here giving false reviews, but, this isn't one. I havn't had the program for long, but so far it looks really good. Enjoy! :-D
