CNET Editors' review
GMail Drive takes the short stack of gigabytes given to Gmail users and turns them into a virtual drive accessible from your computer's file tree.
In short, it creates a shell name--a space extension that creates a virtual file system around the account. This lets you treat those 5 gigs (at the time of writing) as a standard remote drive. You can drag and drop files into the drive, or use standard cutting and pasting. When you add a file, it sends an e-mail to your Gmail account with the file as an attachment. If you delete a file from the virtual drive, it deletes the associated e-mail, as well.
There's not much else users can do with GMail Drive. It's an effective tool, but lacks any additional features. It does allow for proxy authentication and secure HTTP, it preserves long filenames, and it can auto-login, a useful touch for those who want to regularly use their Google account for file transfers. Also, it'd be helpful if the install file was a self-extracting EXE instead of a ZIP. Although it's nice to have a virtual drive option that doesn't require using your Web browser, GMail Drive would benefit by adopting some of the features of its competition.
Publisher's Description
From Viksoe.dk:
GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Gmail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium. GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.
What's new in this version: Version 1.0.18 improvements include a Shell Command Bar and better support for Google Apps accounts.

"Gets the job done"

Cons
limited customization
Summary
If you need an extra 5GB of space accessable through email and my computer, then this is it!
-
"good program - does what it says"
Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
Pros
its a good attempt to utilize storage
Cons
I would give it a **** rating but I'm not going to use the product since I need something which "syncs" my data.
Summary
Good program if you know which files you want to update - but it's done manually vs. synching the storage up with your harddrive - so if you only have a few files - its great (watch out for the file name limit of 65 - it includes the "path" of the file as well in the count and will result in errors

"A better way to store your important documents !"
Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
Pros
With Gmail Drive, you can store your important documents, such as, word docs, excel, powerpoint, etc and you can retrive them any where you go as long you have access to the internet.
Cons
Gmail Drive only offers 5gb which is way than enough space to store documents, but not enough to store pictures, home videos, or music!
Summary
Gmail has many amazing applications such as google docs, google chrome web browser, etc, But they realy outdone themselves by providing a storage medium in which saves space on your physical hard drive!!!

"It cannot be used."
Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
Pros
I can't tell because GMail Drive couldn't connect to my Gmail account (as the message in the program says).
Cons
If Gmail Drive is a kind of "parasite program" for Gmail, and Google blocked the application, even if it may works, you should expect to be unable to use it again.
-

"Wait, this is GREAT"
Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
Pros
Just thought of a good way to make use of this. Sign up a separate gmail account, just for the drive. Then you can have others around the world, use that ID to upload files so you can retrieve them. hmmmm.

"Excellent"
Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
Pros
It's great to have this small tool for remote access to my files.
Cons
1) Sometimes it won't connect first or second time, but just keep trying, it will come, but it's a little frustrating to 'hope' to access your files.
2) I have to have the program on a USB stick, or download it to access my files from a remote computer.

"Good, Handy"
Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
Pros
Flawless installation, nice and simple.
Cons
Not really efficient for large amounts of backup.
-
"Flawed; appropriate for one-way backup only."
Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
Pros
Convenient appearance in Explorer listings.
Cons
When you open a file on the GMail drive in an application, GMail changes its name! This makes working with these files impossible without constant renaming & confusion. Gspace uses the browser to transfer files but any added convenience in GMail is voided by this bizarre "feature."
