"Ads break the flow"
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
It has a great menu feature and allows you to play each scene without going to the menu to push play.
Cons
Before each scene/clip there will be a short ad, so its not suitable for those trying to create a movie that flows.
Summary
Good for choppy movies, not for ones that flow.

"Great program for free."
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
It burns from any format I have tried (mov.,mpg. etc). It works better than my 123 DVD Copy-Gold that I paid $50.00 for. BUT----
Cons
If you burn more than one item (more than one cartoon, or home movie)you get the green advertising banner between each one and the movie, cartoon or whatever doesn't play straight through. You have to click each one seperately to play. I would consider paying for the up-grade but they don't send you a disk, only a download. Lose your hard drive, buy a new p.c., you're toast.
Summary
Good for free. Works when others won't. The green banner at the start of each movie file drives me crazy. I don't trust buying the Pro upgrade.
After researching this app. I found that you can loop the various videos you burn on each dvd. The green banner still comes up before each plays, but if that doesn't bother you, it works really well.

""failed to create dvd menu...""
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
It worked beautifully...on the first dvd only.
Cons
It failed every other dvd burn attempt after the first with the error "failed to create dvd menu".
Summary
What can I say? This software is a crapshoot, at best. It has a successful dvd burn rate (for me) of just 15%.
I submitted a help request to Sothinkmedia's support page and was directed to their support FAQ by an automated email response. The funny thing is that the error I got wasn't listed in their FAQ, but Google auto-completed the phrase when I typed it in to search for it. That tells me that I'm not the only one with this problem.
I had high hopes for this program and was ready to pony up $20 for Pro after the first dvd came out perfectly. Fortunately, I am cautious by nature and I realize that a sample size of 1 (good or bad) isn't enough to make a judgement on. I've given Sothink Movie DVD Maker enough chances to confidently say that the program is worth exactly what I paid for it. Nothing. -
"Great..but not so great. Now l wanna upgrade to Pro!!"
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
Most user-friendly interface l've come across to date.
Recognises many different file formats.
Doesn't take ALL DAY to burn a dvd.
Menu is easy to create.
Price to Upgrade is very affordable.
Novices will have no problem using this software.
I'm 90% sure l'll be using Movie DVD Maker for a long time.
Its FREE!!!!!Cons
First version l used froze every time-wasted many blank dvds.
After an update,it was great-as long as l was burning files from my pc HDD.Files from my External HDD froze.
Not for advanced users-they will find it boring.
I changed the menu music on free version,it still burned but l got no menu at all.
You have to upgrade to pro if you want to change menu audio &background-pretty basic stuff.
I'm worried it will let me down and stop working again.Summary
When l first used this software for putting .avi,.Xvid,and .mkv files onto dvd,l'd get halfway through watching and it would freeze, then crash-every time..Wasted many blank dvds and quite a bit of money.
A new version sorted this out and l was VERY happy-l really want to upgrade to pro version which is very affordable (although I still can't afford it) as this software is perfect for my needs.I have no interest in finding any other dvd creating software as long as this one carries on performing so well. -
"This program is awesome! For Real!"
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
I was a first time dvd creator and went threw so many programs and disc's I almost gave up. Now I download a movie/torrent or upload a video and this program does everything from start to finish, quickly!
Cons
None at all!!!!!!!
Summary
If anyone gave this less than 4 stars they haven't tried the program.

"A nice surprise, given the cost - $0."
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
Supports multiple video formats when importing clips. Easy to use. Didn't crash on Vista. Didn't seem to install extra garbage (although one can never tell for sure). Seems to preserve the quality of the original clips.
Cons
The green banner that it stitches to each chapter. You need to complete your work in one session (i.e., you can't add clips, and save your selections to be completed later. Once you start selecting clips, you must burn them before quitting the program).
Summary
It's a very basic tool and perfect for what I needed - to create DVDs out of m4v and wmv files that were downloaded from various sources or ripped out of other DVDs. It seems to support both NTSC and PAL formats, although I only tried NTSC. It gave me the choice whether to return to the menu after each clip, or continue to the next. For my purposes, I chose to return to the menu. As others indicated, each clip is proceeded with a green banner that some reviewers find pesky. I can live with that - it didn't cut short the clip that follows. You can edit the DVD's title, as well as for each chapter. The main advantage over MS Movie Maker is that it supports m4v, and perhaps other formats. I think it lets you split clips before you burn them. I had no issues playing the DVD on DVD players. I used it with Vista.
Overall, a nice product, given the cost - free. -
"Horrible program and wrong description."
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
There aren't any
Cons
Very basic and limited program. Completely different from it's description, which must be for the Pro version.
Could not get it to burn a DVD, the program kept crashing in my Windows 7 Home Edition. I seem to be having the same problem as notjasonelia. -
"Some cons to free version, great if upgraded to Pro."
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
Preserves video quality and aspect ratio.
Can encode from .mov file format.
Simple user interface. Not too many settings but enough to give you control.
Can burn to file to save time re-encoding later.
NOTE:
Haven't tried burning from a QT reference file.
Haven't tried burning video that used Avid DV Codec.
Haven't used menu creation.
I ran this on Windows XP and Windows 7. No problems.
What impressed me about the program was how little quality I lost in the encoding and burning process. I bought the $35 pro license on the spot to get rid of the notice at the head of each chapter and I'm thrilled with the purchase.Cons
[Free version] Green screen at head of each chapter saying it was created with the free version of the software.

"Worked the first time I used it GREAT!!"
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
Easy to use first time
Cons
Unable to change menu display
-
"It doesnt work"
Version: Free Movie DVD Maker 3.7
Pros
I didnt find any pros
Cons
It didnt work at all for me. I got an error message saying it was unable to create the DVD menu so I selected the option to create the DVD without a menu. When the DVD finished burning I played it and there was no video at all. It only recorded the audio.
Summary
I wouldnt waste my time with this. Im deleting the software from my system.
