This pop-up blocker's middling performance keeps it from outdoing its numerous and more capable competitors. True to its name, FilterGate Free PopupFilter won't cost you a dime, but that's the most positive thing we have to say about it. In our tests, the program stopped only about half the pop-up and Flash ads we threw at it, a rather disappointing statistic. The interface is bland, but we do appreciate that the app can minimize to your system tray for quick access. This program offers most essential features for its class but doesn't provide you with anything special. You can choose to allow pop-ups by adding sites to a whitelist and specifying what types of ads to block. The log provides you with a list of quashed ads, but the app doesn't flash or emit a sound when doing its job. Downloading this free program certainly won't do any harm, but we question how much good it will really accomplish.Publisher's description
From FilterGate :PopupFilter is a free, fully functional version of the PopupFilter module from the popular FilterGate suite. PopupFilter blocks all forms of pop-ups and pop-unders, including intrusive Messenger Service ads and the new Flash-animation pop-ups. In addition to automatic blocking, you can now set up your own Allow and Block lists for more personalized control. PopupFilter does not contain any form of spyware.

"Works great. This is a handy little filter with updates."
Pros: I like the password feature and especially the adult filter. I also love the fact that you can update the filter list quite often.
Cons: none that i've seen thus far.

"Allows pop ups to pass through"
Summary: The program is not everything the company claims. It allows popups to get through. The program will not remove with its uninstaller and the company does not offer support through email.

Summary: This program works great! I have downloaded several 'popup blockers' and none worked until FilterGate. Be advised that you HAVE to read the instructions before using - clean out cache and remove spyware - for it to work properly. Using Windows 98
