DiskMax is an easy-to-use utility that helps users clear their computers of unneeded, space-wasting files. With three levels of customizable scans, DiskMax makes it easy to free up valuable disk space.
DiskMax's interface is quite plain and simple. Users simply click on Quick, Standard, or Detailed to select the type of scan they want to perform. We wish that the interface itself explained what was involved in which type of scan, but the Help file--which must be downloaded separately from the creator's Web site--does contain details about each one. The Quick scan, for example, scans only the Recycle Bin and user profile, while the Standard scan adds such areas as the Windows update, event logs, and defragmentation. With each step the program asks users whether they want to delete unneeded files, and users can choose whether they want the program to remember their responses for future scans. Overall, we found DiskMax to be quite effective and easy to use. Our only major issue with it--one that we have with almost all programs of this type--is that users should make sure that they know what they're deleting before allowing the program to get rid of so-called junk files. The Help file provides more guidance than we typically see from such programs, which we appreciated, but users may wish to do further research before proceeding.
DiskMax is free. The program installs a desktop icon without asking but uninstalls cleanly. We recommend this program to all users.

"Usage tracking"

Did not complete install.

Program would not install for me unless i agreed to be tracked by accepting to be part of collection of "anonymous usage statistics".
Summary
Although this may be benign, i feel that agreeing to usage tracking should be totally optional and not a prerequisite to installing or using a program. At a minimum, this requirement should be noted as part of the program description. Perhaps not quite spyware, however, close enough that i will pass on DiskMax at this time.
I think the CNET review should also have noted this. -

"One of the greatest programs I've ever used"

....of any type. My doctor gave me Diskmax and CCleaner, neither of which were knownto me or a lot of my computer-savvy friends. Both programs have proved invaluable in keeping my 3 HDs running well. Guess what? DM even does things it's not, to my knowledge, officially supposed to. Had used Superantispyware for protection which was great, then Malwarebytes Antimalware which was better, but now I can do Diskmax and then neither program finds ANY problems to fix -- ever. I can still run either DM or CC alone and they *will* find bugs, so the bugs are still coming aplenty.
Cons
Only one -- I have yet to make a contribution to DM's creators.
Summary
I didn't mention that DM runs nice and fast. It just rips along and usually finishes up in a few minutes.

Help file which is to be downloaded separately will not open--help to open the help file provided on the website is out-of-date (Server 2003). Screen on website with contact information is blank.

A little early to tell but so far not too bad. Light weight program. Requires little resources. does not Hi-jack PC. Using with XP, runs good so far. Cleans a lot of hidden junk left dormat.
Cons
Kinda of missed a couple of issues, but should catch them second time around before cleaning/deleting. Nothing major, or there wouldn't be a second time around. ;)
