    "This should explain alot -"

    November 12, 2003   |   By philip anon

    Version: Cookie Muncher 1.0.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
    Well, I did get feedback from Dot Software and here it is (it explains alot );

    Hi Philip,

I would think 2 days is a rather okay responding time, especially considering that for me both Monday and Tuesday, which is a holiday across Canada, were days off. I also delayed responding to your email because I just installed Panther last night and I had school up until now. However, your case seems to be isolated because I nor any of my beta testers or users have noticed any problems (apart from a couple cosmetic ones) with Cookie Muncher on Panther. I admit that these people probably have not tried it unregistered (I was going to do that tonight, but I'm instead replying to your email) and may not be using Internet Explorer, which I will also test later on tonight. Further more, I will also issue a refund within 12 hours and you will get an email confirmation from eSellerate.

Here was my response to his email (only fair since i posted his ):

    Thank you Tommy,
but school is still in session.
When you set up a company, advertise a product, and exchange money for it there are responsibilities and consequences - it's just a fact.

    1) Your market is not just other programmers, the folks installing and trusting your software to work as advertised are lay people who if for
any reason their computers stop working for even a 1/2 hour are in a world of trouble. Deadlines for the small business owners go unmet,
accessing of vital medical information for family members is now locked up in inaccessible files ( fill in your own mellow dramatic scenario )
but know that we Totaly rely on or machines and expect them work when we need them, especially mac owners. Expecting someone to wait
while you 'get around' to it is really irresponsible of you especially knowing that peoples computers and lives are being affected.

    2) How could you, while fully knowing that Panther was released, not put a disclaimer on your web site?! Letting us know that it's own creator
had not themselves personally tested it with Panther or Explorer as your email says - that is truly malicious of you. Thinking that your beta testers
have more knowledge of the program than you is pretty lax if you ask me.

    3) You have a review in this months MacWorld magazine. This will bring a great deal of attention to Dot Software. People don't know, as I have
just discovered from your email, that you are 1)not a staffed company 2) still in school 3) wait three weeks after the release of Panther to
'try it'. I may not be too computer savvy but I do know that most who program for Mac were already using beta versions long before it came out.

    4) Just for clarification I paid for the program first and then had to go back to the site to download it.

    5) After removing IE (including all plist's and everything else i could find) and then reloading it, it is still sluggish and does not load pages well
at all which it did very well the night before the CM download. Obviously it changed something somewhere and now i have to suffer for it not
to mention all the wasted time and energy trying to fix and write letters.

I get the feeling from your email that this is a big inconvenience for you. Fine whatever kid. Go right on thinking your a great guy. But to those of
us suffering for your 'hobby company' it feels just like vandalism.
    END.

Mostly i think MacWorld magazine should be chewed out for giving the program a 'good' rating (3 mice out of a possible 5 ). I guess they needed filler and to meet a deadline. I also think it's time ths shareware community started policiing itself.
What a grand waste of time all this was.

    "Don't be fooled"

    Version: Cookie Muncher 1.0.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Recently downloaded (paid) Cookie Muncher on a pristine system.
Did a simple set up and Voila! My OS starts crashing. G4 MMD 1.25 2GB ram Panther 10.3.1 .
Took CM out of Start Up items and still no luck. Repaired Prefs from Install disc. etc. etc.
Only after i removed CM did my system respond normally again. Although IE needed to be uninstalled and then reloaded due to strange behavior.
Tried reinstalling CM again to give it benefit of the doubt but same issues.
Emailed dot software and explained my issues and that I wanted instructions for a refund. NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM EVEN AFTER 2ND EMAIL.
For $8 i (they) cost myself a lot of headaches.
In my opinion and obviously many others here - scroll through and see - this is amateur software and you will be very sorry indeed. I have serious suspicions about any positive reports here. Spread the word about Dot Software.

    "Works great"

    Version: Cookie Muncher 1.0.5

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This latest version solved a error that I was getting and now it works great with Safari and IE. It launches at startup, saves the cookies I've selected and deletes the rest. It's well worth $8. Plus the developer is very responsive and helpful.

    Version: Cookie Muncher 1.0.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Have been paid user since 10/02. Latest version (1.0.4) is fast and flawless - works as advertised and is great with Safari. Auto trashing cookies not specifically saved when closing makes it a no brainer to use. Has always worked well, and author is diligent about responding to emails about glitches or bugs -- explains nature of problems and works on it until fixed. Using Safari's ad and pop-up blocking together with having Muncher installed makes browsing quick and tidy.

"I Luv Munching Cookies (Cookie Monster)"

    Version: Cookie Muncher 1.0.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This user finds keeping his browser free from all Cookies is just fine, after each Reboot and Login.. That method has worked for me for many years. Cookie Muncher and Safari 1.0 do this job wonderfully. For $8 US funds it is cheap at the price and worth every penny. I cannot comment on the saving and editing of Cookies , because I do not bother with it. Anyhow for me I do not need the hassle. So for what and how I use it Full Marks. There are a a couple of areas in the documentatio that could be a little smother, but no big deal.

    "Works okay..."

    Version: Cookie Muncher 1.0.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Indeed it found my Safari bookmarks. I was annoyed to find that after I deleted all the cookies I didn't want that I had to select each remaining cookie individually to add it to "My Cookies" list. (A "select all" would have been niceI didn't have time to do this, and upon quitting I had to either delete all my remaining cookies or undo all the deletions I had done. Now that I have learned from that mistake it will be a much better program for me. I suggest you just save the cookies you want to your "My Cookies" list then quit the program and let it delete all the remaining ones.
