Google Desktop Search may get all the press, but Ava Find is a strong competitor. The first time it starts up, this substitute for Microsoft Find scans your drives and stores the locations of your files in a cache. Once finished, it delivers results instantly as you type. You can limit search results by folder or drive and specify whether you're looking for videos, music, applications, or recent downloads. This real-time approach delivers outstanding results, but it requires a lot of computing power. A scan of a 20GB hard drive took about a minute, slowed our PC, and couldn't be stopped. Also, after 30 days, Ava Find won't let you delete, rename, or perform most other file functions from the results window. Those essential features are limited to the Professional version--and that, sadly, keeps us from giving Ava Find our highest rating.Publisher's description
From Think Less Do More Services :Ava Find speeds up your daily computing experience by letting you find any file on your computer instantly. Version: Ava Find 1.5
Pros: Great Idea, search files fast. Better than Google Desktop Search and any "Desktop search" Tool.
Cons: No updates , no support for many years! Bought key expired after one year! One reviewer seems to NOT be able to get the product key.
But I found a new tool called " Instant File Find 1.3 " . It 's similar to avafind, so i paid for a full version. Then i found the features of that product are better than avafind.

Version: Ava Find 1.5
Pros: Instead of being bogged down by having features such as news feeds and weather like other desktop search tools, Avafind seems to be the only software that I can find that just searches your desktop and nothing more. A plus for me.
Cons: Scary story by the one reviewer who paid for the full version without being able to get the product key. I tried to e-mail them to ask a question but when you click the "contact us" button on their web site it says 404 Not Found. It's a shame for a company who made such a great product to not have customer support. Did they all die?

"Not better than Instant File Find"
Pros: Yes, AVA Find find files fast!
Cons: But, NOT better than Instant File Find . It's very similar to AvaFind (fast file search ) . However, the toolbar customization supported in Instant File Find is more useful . And you can make the search by size and date of the file in IFF. The insterface is very well also. It is highly recommended to use IFF instead of AVAFIND

"Looking for something? Here's the perfect lil program."
Pros: I use this everyday to look for those pesky files, that seem to hide from you. I really appreciate this software because if you type in "chicken" you get your results extremely fast. (And for me, with 3 drives, and endless folders, I could use the help). Yes, people have said here that it may run full system scans for any other files it might of missed upon being closed out of, but it is worth it. It keeps recurrent files that you need under a list on the right, and if you decide to type in "chicken", it will know, and choose the one that you had wanted in the past. An extremely solid piece of free ware that I come to appreciate, because quite frankly, the normal search methods seem to take forever.
In the end, highly recommended.

"Great idea, works fine but several big problems"
Pros: Very Fast results (at a price, see don't likes), Scout Bot is great if you are frequently working with the file system.
Cons: 1) DON"T GET THE YEARLY UPDATABLE LICENSE!!!! They have not updated this in many years, but will continue to charge you via subscription every year anyways. It gives you NOTHING over the one-time subscription and if you stop the subscption (which I did after paying $60 over 3 years instead of the $39 fee), you can no longer use it, and they refuse to change it to a non-subscription license. BIG BIG RIPOFF.
2) The program will too FREQUENTLY do a full scan on system startup, which with 100 Gig hard drives and above takes ages, and it slows your machine down quite a bit. Essentially makes your startup take 5 - 10 minutes or more... (or turn off AVA Find, which makes it useless of course)
