"Not a Word replacement."
Version: Apple Pages 4.0.3
Pros
Nice interface.
Cons
Can't turn off drag & drop, so your documents will contain inadvertent errors. Tables are poor - e.g. if you cut & paste contents of a cell which includes line returns, Pages will paste into multiple cells!
Summary
It would be nice to have an alternative to Word with its weird formatting tricks, but Pages isn't up to it yet.

"I've tried, I really have!"
Version: Apple Pages 3.0.3
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I bought the iWork Family Pack about 6 months ago and I have tried Pages for about as long as I can stand it. I have insisted that my family stumble along with inadequate templates, contact support, label usage and printing issues galore. I am frustrated that it seems that even a product that is not originally made for this computer (m. word) is better used on this computer than Pages. I have seen requests being made for years for some simple upgrades to user friendliness and problem solving with no improvements whatsoever. So, here it is, I am throwing in the towel. I really, really have tried because I wanted Pages to work so badly. I know defeat when I see it. -
"No labels. Slow. Useless templates..."
Version: Apple Pages 2.0.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I do use Pages 06 where I used to use Word, because it's simpler. Pages is annoying too, though, and I'm not going to upgrade until they produce decent support for label design and print.
As for their templates - they're pretty useless for small business. An annoying omission is comp slips (do they have them in US?)
And why won't it start up with your own template selection?
Could do better. -
"Best Cheap Page AP Ever"
Version: Apple Pages 2.0.2
Summary

I have used Macs since 1985, owned & operated a Press House, worked for ALDUS on PageMaker & Freehand. I taught PhotoShop professional digital photography and page layout for 8 years all around the world. I miss PageMaker. I always thought Quark to be non intuitive. But Apple's Pages is SWEET. I just completed a 200 + page book of 30 short stories in Pages 2.0 without a hitch. Moving pages around, dragging stories into the master document. Managing page numbers, footers and footnotes. The TOC was a dream come true. Apple's universal dictionary kept things looking good too. INSIDE THE BOOM was then printed to PDF in the print dialog box, saved and reopened in Acrobat READER and saved again. The resulting document looked exactly the same as the original. PLUS, the links I had placed and automated in the TOC worked like a dream - click on a title and jump to the page. For $79.00 how can you go wrong? I also built my "Elevator Pitch" in Keynote (comes WITH Pages for the same price). The pitch is on my iPod video and has sold a number of the books!!!! WOW!!! Apple scored a winner here! I can't wait to see what they'll add in 3.0. visit me at www.INSIDETHEBOOM.com (also made on the MAC with iWEB. That Ray Guy -
"not usable"
Version: Apple Pages 2.0.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
slow to the point that it is completely unusable.i'm running this on a dual-1.8GHz G5 with 1GB of DRAM, and top says that it is eating up 175MB of real memory (980MB of virtual memory) just to edit a 44KB text file ... no graphics, very little formatting. 2000 words in my document, and any mouse click, and key press takes seconds to have any effect.
i have been hoping and praying that this is a framemaker replacement. while the application clearly has the potential to be a great piece of software, it is not there yet. i can't believe they have not fixed this bug yet (i'm assuming that this is due to a bug ... if they find this performance acceptable, well, then, i just don't know what to say).

"This piece of crap ..."
Version: Apple Pages 2.0.1v2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
... should be still called "Beta". There are so many bugs in Pages - it's frustrating (reminds me of InDesign 1.0).
Most famous is the formula-comma-bug (for non US versions) which still isn't fixed, although Apple must be aware of it (btw: you can use "16/100" instead of "0,16" as a workaround).
To layout tables is so annoying (gladly you can use table borders thinner then 1 pt now - bravo Apple). Global cell settings in the table inspector for cells with different text rows don't work. Cell heights change randomly if you add/delete cells etc.
I love mostly every Apple stuff, but Pages makes me angry. PLEASE APPLE MAKE YOUR HOMEWORK !!!!!!!!!

"Three problems with Pages 2"
Version: Apple Pages 2.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Pages 2 is not bad, overall, and it's fast enough even on a PowerBook G4 at 867 MHz, but I found no less than three bugs in just a couple of days after buying iWork'06.
- The Table of Contents is not generated. Not ever. I meticulously followed the instructions, and made sure I selected paragraph styles for inclusion in the TOC that are actually used in the document, but instead of a generated TOC, I get a message saying no relevant paragraph styles were found. Manually updating the TOC (through the contextual menu) doesn't work either. Bad bug.
- The setting for a 'different first page' doesn't do anything. What it's supposed to do is enable the user to, for instance, remove the content of a footer (page number, title) on the first page of a section, having it appear only on the second, third, etc. pages. But the footer content is the same on all pages, regardless of the 'different first page' setting. I tried and tried to have a first page without footer content, but no luck. Another bad, bad bug.
- Calculations in table cells produce errors when included in templates. When a new document is opened using such a template, an error icon is displayed in the table cell. Opening the formula editor for that cell shows a perfectly valid formula and clicking the green dot, without having edited the formula at all, causes the formula to be accepted and executed, producing a correct result as content for the cell. So an error is reported where there is none. Another bad bug.
Pages 2 doesn't bring many new features. Lacking are cross-references, bibliography tools, and other long document utilities. And it's rather disappointing that even the features that are included, sometimes simply do not work.
Let's hope Apple releases a Pages 2.x update very soon, addressing these issues.

"Pages 2.0 (2006) looks very good"
Version: Apple Pages 2.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
After using Pages of late, I'm going to use Pages as my main word processing program alongside Mellel. Pages has done a terrific job and the integration and consistent interface with Keynote is super. I am a very, very big Keynote fan as well. So, for me, it will be a combination of Mellel and Pages in my day to day work with the hopes of possibly converting wholly to Pages if it all works out.
I've been using wordprocessors (eg, Word) for many years - since it first appeared in the 1980's. I recently dumped Word for Mellel because it's (Office 2004) has continued to prove very unreliable, especially with long documents with graphic elements.
