"tried it and hate it"

May 04, 2014  |  By flypigfly

 |  Version: Apple Pages 5.2

Pros

no pro, it's just a copy of microsoft word

Cons

not only people cannot open it unless they have the program, i cannot even open my work file after just buying a brand new mac.

Summary

get microsoft word if you want a trustworthy application for work. Apple's quality is really slipping after Steve Job's passing.

"PAGE OWNERS ON THE APPLE WEBSITE, 5500+ 90%+, 1 STAR"

December 29, 2013  |  By kwethington1

 |  Version: Apple Pages 5.0.1

Pros

IT IS ONLY $19.95.

SOME OF THE EARLIER VERSIONS WERE BETTER THAN THE LAST.

Cons

IF WANT TO KNOW THESE, GO TO THE APPLE WEB SITE AND READ THE REVIEWS.
NINE OF TEN GIVE IT ONE STAR. WE ARE TALKING OF 5500+ 1 STAR. BOUGHT AN IMAC TWO MONTHS AGO. WAS READY TO BUY WHEN I READ THE REVIEWS. DELETED THE ORDER.

THE ONLY GOOD THING 90+ PERCENT HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE APPLE PAGES SOFTWARE IS, EARLIER VERSIONS WERE BETTER THAN THIS ONE, BECAUSE THE LATEST WAS DUMBED DOWN FOR THE IP APPLE PHONES TO USE

Summary

THINK OF THE BOY THAT SOLD THE FAMILY'S LAST POSSESSION, A MILK COW, FOR A BAG OF "MAGIC BEANS," ONLY THIS TIME, THE BEANS WERE NOT MAGIC. AGAIN, THE APPLE SITE REVIEWS HAVE OVER 9 OF 10 GIVING THIS LATEST VERSION ONE STAR. THE BEST THING THEY CAN SAY IS, THE PREVIOUS VERSIONS WERE BETTER.

I THINK THE ONLY REASON THIS WAS APPROVED FOR RELEASE IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS, THE CEO AND DECISION MAKER AND APPLE COFOUNDER, WAS, GOD BLESS HIM, DYING AT THE TIME. HEALTHY, IT WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT OUT OF THE APPLE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION.

APPLE LIKES TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF THE BLAME. SMART. MOST OF THE TIME THIS MEANS MAKING SURE COMMUNICATION IS WORKING AS WELL AS POSSIBLE, THE EMPLOYEES HAVE THE TRAINING THEY NEED, COOPERATION FOR SUCCESS IN A TEAM PROJECT IS REWARDED INSTEAD OF INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT, WHICH LEADS TO LACK OF TEAM WORK, AND HIDING IDEAS FROM TEAM WORKERS. THINK FBI AND US MILITARY FITNESS REPORTS MODELS FOR ITS OFFICERS AND SENIOR ENLISTED.

FIXING THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF FIXING THE BLAME MEANS, IN THIS CASE, FIRING ALL THOSE WHO WORKED ON THIS LATEST VERSION THAT DID NOT DAILY STAND ON THE TEAM CONFERENCE TABLE AND SHOUT, LOUDLY, THIS IS CRAP AND WE NEED TO START OVER FROM THE BEGINNING AND DO IT RIGHT.

ALL OTHERS NEED TO GO WHERE "YES" MEN NORMALLY GO. THE SOFTWARE IS NOT WORTH THE $19.95 CHARGED, NOR IT IS WORTH THE COST OF THE STAMP AND PAPER USED TO SEND THE CHECK TO APPLE TO PURCHASE IT.

PAGES IS LIKE GETTING FRUIT CAKE FOR CHRISTMAS. THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN HAVING IT, IS HAVING OR GETTING TWO INSTEAD OF ONE.

I EQUATE IT TO A HONEYMOON IN THE MIDDLE OF A NEW JERSEY TOXIC WASTE DUMP. THE WATER THE YOUNG COUPLE IS SWIMMING IN IS NOT A SWIMMING POOL AS NORMALLY DEFINED,

NO, THIS IS REALLY BAD. ALL JOKES ASIDE, I LIKE APPLE, OVERALL. THIS IS JUST A VERY POOR PRODUCT.

"Not a Word replacement."

September 09, 2009  |  By jblckaust

 |  Version: Apple Pages 4.0.3

Pros

Nice interface.

Cons

Can't turn off drag & drop, so your documents will contain inadvertent errors. Tables are poor - e.g. if you cut & paste contents of a cell which includes line returns, Pages will paste into multiple cells!

Summary

It would be nice to have an alternative to Word with its weird formatting tricks, but Pages isn't up to it yet.

"I've tried, I really have!"

April 13, 2009  |  By smiles813

 |  Version: Apple Pages 3.0.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I bought the iWork Family Pack about 6 months ago and I have tried Pages for about as long as I can stand it. I have insisted that my family stumble along with inadequate templates, contact support, label usage and printing issues galore. I am frustrated that it seems that even a product that is not originally made for this computer (m. word) is better used on this computer than Pages. I have seen requests being made for years for some simple upgrades to user friendliness and problem solving with no improvements whatsoever. So, here it is, I am throwing in the towel. I really, really have tried because I wanted Pages to work so badly. I know defeat when I see it.

"No labels. Slow. Useless templates..."

November 25, 2007  |  By ixmorrison1

Summary

I do use Pages 06 where I used to use Word, because it's simpler. Pages is annoying too, though, and I'm not going to upgrade until they produce decent support for label design and print.

As for their templates - they're pretty useless for small business. An annoying omission is comp slips (do they have them in US?)

And why won't it start up with your own template selection?

Could do better.

"Best Cheap Page AP Ever"

March 24, 2007  |  By thatrayguy

 |  Version: Apple Pages 2.0.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used Macs since 1985, owned & operated a Press House, worked for ALDUS on PageMaker & Freehand. I taught PhotoShop professional digital photography and page layout for 8 years all around the world. I miss PageMaker. I always thought Quark to be non intuitive. But Apple's Pages is SWEET. I just completed a 200 + page book of 30 short stories in Pages 2.0 without a hitch. Moving pages around, dragging stories into the master document. Managing page numbers, footers and footnotes. The TOC was a dream come true. Apple's universal dictionary kept things looking good too. INSIDE THE BOOM was then printed to PDF in the print dialog box, saved and reopened in Acrobat READER and saved again. The resulting document looked exactly the same as the original. PLUS, the links I had placed and automated in the TOC worked like a dream - click on a title and jump to the page. For $79.00 how can you go wrong? I also built my "Elevator Pitch" in Keynote (comes WITH Pages for the same price). The pitch is on my iPod video and has sold a number of the books!!!! WOW!!! Apple scored a winner here! I can't wait to see what they'll add in 3.0. visit me at www.INSIDETHEBOOM.com (also made on the MAC with iWEB. That Ray Guy

"not usable"

February 05, 2007  |  By blj

 |  Version: Apple Pages 2.0.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
slow to the point that it is completely unusable.

i'm running this on a dual-1.8GHz G5 with 1GB of DRAM, and top says that it is eating up 175MB of real memory (980MB of virtual memory) just to edit a 44KB text file ... no graphics, very little formatting. 2000 words in my document, and any mouse click, and key press takes seconds to have any effect.

i have been hoping and praying that this is a framemaker replacement. while the application clearly has the potential to be a great piece of software, it is not there yet. i can't believe they have not fixed this bug yet (i'm assuming that this is due to a bug ... if they find this performance acceptable, well, then, i just don't know what to say).
