Apple Pages for Mac lets you create, edit, and share documents. It can open files created in Word and other word processing programs as well. It offers most of the features you'd expect to find in a program of this kind, and its interface makes all tools conveniently accessible with just a few clicks.

Pros

Tool panels: Click either the Format or Document icons to open a panel that displays options for table styles, headers and footers, spacing, font, paragraph alignment, and much more. Having these tools handy is a real time-saver.

Templates: No matter what type of document you want to create, you'll likely find the perfect template in this program. There are over 60 available, and they're broken down into categories like Reports, Cards, Flyers and Posters, Envelopes, Letters, and more for quick searching.

Cons

Crashing issues: This app crashes all too often, although the crashing doesn't generally result in the loss of any work. The issue mostly arises when exporting a document to Word format.

Limited page views: There is no way to view pages side by side in this version of the app. While this may not be an issue for many users, anyone who prefers working with this arrangement or who deals with creating two-page layouts may find it frustrating.

Its difficult. It doesn't seem to understand scrolling. it won't automatically continue tables on the next page. basically any of the basic window words tasks it cannot manage any of them.
Summary
I hate it so much. It's honestly the most frustrating thing I have ever used. Even after I save my documents it still manages to screw them up. Don't do it.

Looks aren't everything. Over 100 features, most of the important ones, were removed in Pages 5 File format is constantly being changed and is largely incompatible with everything else. Latest version Pages 5.5.1 can only run and have documents open in Yosemite. Many Word exports are screwed up or won't open. Constant clash of versions and message that file XXX can't be opened.
Summary
This looks like something to avoid. Why would any sane person put their work into a format that they know Apple will trash? Not just over major releases but even point releases. Mac users can't even share files with each other, sometimes not even with themselves! Incredible. I've been in computing over 30 years and I have never seen anything as stuffed up as this "upgrade". Basically avoid. Use something that lets you open your work when you need it.

not only people cannot open it unless they have the program, i cannot even open my work file after just buying a brand new mac.
Summary
get microsoft word if you want a trustworthy application for work. Apple's quality is really slipping after Steve Job's passing.

Can't turn off drag & drop, so your documents will contain inadvertent errors. Tables are poor - e.g. if you cut & paste contents of a cell which includes line returns, Pages will paste into multiple cells!
Summary
It would be nice to have an alternative to Word with its weird formatting tricks, but Pages isn't up to it yet.

I have insisted that my family stumble along with inadequate templates, contact support, label usage and printing issues galore. I am frustrated that it seems that even a product that is not originally made for this computer (m. word) is better used on this computer than Pages. I have seen requests being made for years for some simple upgrades to user friendliness and problem solving with no improvements whatsoever. So, here it is, I am throwing in the towel. I really, really have tried because I wanted Pages to work so badly. I know defeat when I see it.

Pages is annoying too, though, and I'm not going to upgrade until they produce decent support for label design and print. As for their templates - they're pretty useless for small business. An annoying omission is comp slips (do they have them in US?) And why won't it start up with your own template selection? Could do better.
