Version: Adaptec UDF Reader Driver 5.1.1.213
Pros: My WinXP couldn't read 2 cds that were originally burned using Adaptec DirectCD. I had 6 cds all together, burned the same way, but somehow, these 2 weren't readable. After downloading Adaptec UDF Reader Driver 5.1.1.213, my system can read them. Thanks!

Version: Adaptec UDF Reader Driver 5.1.1.213
"It works on Win XP, but conflicts with InCD (Nero) software"
Pros: Install and uninstall easily and does not cause major problems. It can be useful to read old CDRW originally formatted and written with Adaptec software
Cons: However, with this utility installed, the InCD (Nero) software does not recognize formatted CDRW as rewritable and treat them as read only CD. I would keep the installer of this utility on the hard drive and install it only when I really need to read data from old backups, but uninstall it during normal operation, if you want to use InCD and CDRW .

Version: Adaptec UDF Reader Driver 5.1.1.213
"Thank goodness I found this driver!"
Pros: A week and a half before the annual meeting of our congregation, which I serve as treasurer, my hard disk suddenly self-destructed on my 4.5 yo Windows Me computer. The new computer, running WINDOWS XP Home, wouldn't read the data backup disks created with Adaptec Direct CD. When I inserted a disk in the new RW drive, I was prompted to install the Adaptec UDF reader for Windows 95/NT. Not only did it not help, but then I got an error message at every startup saying the driver was incompatible and had been disabled. The message sent me to the Roxio Web site, which made no mention of Direct CD. I downloaded the 5.1.1.213 driver from download.com and--what a relief--all my data is accessible again!!!
TIP: Turn off virus-scanning software before trying to download the file.
