  Used xtreegold in the early 90's for file management, was surprised that nothing does what I need but this. I was looking for a program that will copy a few files from different folders and AT THE SAME TIME build the folder structure exactly the same, with the files in the individual folders. Using the trial version but probably will have to purchase it...<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jun 20, 2013<p/>Didn't give it 5 stars only cuz you need to relearn the interface...lucky for me I learned it 20 years ago!

• Fast and powerful, much better than Windows Explorer

  Frustrating minutes become seconds. ZTree is much faster than Windows Explorer and anything else. Makes you the master of your files and directories, does not restrict and frustrate you like Windows Explorer. Shows you ALL the info there is.

  Cons

  You need to learn it first. It will take some time to use it efficiently (but this is time well spent)

  Summary

  Paying for a text-based old-fashioned looking application that seems to be doing similar things than the free Windows Explorer? I'd be the last to do that, except: ZTree is excellent and worth every penny. Those who grew up with Windows Explorer don't even know how meek and bad and frustrating it is. Once you're good at using ZTree you will feel sorry for all the time you had wasted with Windows Explorer and all the files you have lost. Examples: In which sub-folder was that darned word file again I wrote last week? In Explorer you will have to click yourself through folders or fight with the cumbersome and slow search function. In Ztree you press B and all files of the whole branch (with all sub-folders) show up in under a second. Press F and then *.doc and you only see word files. Still can't find your file? Press ALT&#38;S, D and all is sorted by change date. At the end of the list you'll find your doc.

  Pros

  You can quickly open a file display for part of a hard disk or several drives at once. You can do a sorted global display of what you have opened. You can view all but those files files that trigger a sharing violation.

  Cons

  I have not found the time to learn all of the powerful things it can do. If you choose to do so you can delete files, bypass the Recycle Bin, and lose them forever. Be careful what you ask for.

  Summary

  Have you ever lost a file and asked where it went? ZTREE is the solution! I began using XTREE for DOS in the 1980's. I was delighted to learn that Kim had reinvented the interface for Windows. I use it almost every day. What more can I say? It is wonderful!

  It doesn't have anywhere near the convenience and flexibility of Xtree Gold. In fact, it's user interface is very simplistic and it doesn't seem to add any capaibilities that you can't do with Explorer

  Pros

  Terse. Does what windows won't-with more information, less BS, and without all the headaches associated with the standard limited file/directory commands, all that with an author who actually replys to your emails! Try to get that from the other big guy. Tagging files remain tagged even after being operated on! File options are what they should be, even a mirror command. Let's hope MS doesn't buy it up and screw it up.

  Terse. LOL. Does what you tell it to do! I wish I could see it in action with a real expert at the mouse wheel.

  Pros

  Xtree taken to the next level. If you liked Xtree, you will love Ztree. This is an indespensible program that permits almost unlimited manipulation of files. In a bloated Windows world, slick and fast are an oxymoron, but this program qualifies as both. One wonders why Microsoft has not enabled these tools in Explorer.

  Wipes the floor with any windows GUI. <p>Intelligent file rename function. <p>Fast to view an entire HDD. <p>Very customisable. Handles compressed files with ease (view without opening). Very useful for looking at an entire filespace to find largest files/latest files/files of a certain size. <p>If you ever use XtreeGold, you *HAVE* to try this! <p> <p>I can't live without it.

  Cons

  Bit of a learning curve. Overcome that and never look back.

  I used XTreeGold in the early 90's when it was one of the only disk file maintenance tools available. It was brilliant then and still has relevance today--even in the shadow of Microsoft Windows. ZTreeWin is everything XTree was plus modern file system compatibility.
