Some Nice Features, But You Have To Be Donald Trump To Afford The Software, Use Another Piece Of Software That Is Less Expensive.

Hard to use. Annoying pop-ups. Doesn't work very well with vista. Pick a different one.

Pros
I was a bit worried because usually I like to have a paper manual with my software. But Zoom was really easy to set up. I'm no expert on search engines, but this thing is doing everything I want and hasn't failed me once. I also found the people at the Wrensoft site very helpful with my dumb questions.
Cons
Can't think of anything major at the moment. I guess it would be nice to be able to search on picture files (e.g. digital camera shots), but that's not a major concern for me at the moment.

Pros
Zoom does just what it says it does. It pre-indexes files or an entire web site off-line and then allows lightening fast on-line searches. With very little computer knowledge, it installs in a few minutes with the most useful defaults. It has intuitive set-up screens and once set up schedules itself and runs at night. It does its own uploads and it trouble free. Although it has a wealth of options, its big advantage on 'free' scripts is that you will never invest hours and hours in making it run properly or even understanding how it works.

Zoom then doubles up as a traffic analyser to a degree, by providing reporting such as 'Top 10 Searches'. The software allows for custom reports to be designed and generated at the highest presentation level. <p> <p> Having utilised and reviewed many tools (scripts, macromedia extensions, dedicated software) for the implementation of a website search engine (including multimedia projects on CD Rom)Ã¢Â€?I can confidentially claim ZOOM (v4.2) is the most outstanding software in its class. For small hobby websites through to enterprise businesses, the automatic indexing was super fast, the installation flawless and the flexibility to customise for a large range of needs, truly amazing. Add to this the generous website environments supported - PHP, ASP, Javascript, Flash and CGI. <p> <p> A generous FREE version is available, limited to a 50 page website scan. Is there anything more annoying than opening a web-site and not find what you're looking for? Or finding a web-site with a lot of text? <p>- Who reads the whole text? <p>- Who knows about "ctrl+f"? <p>- Who has Google Tool-bar? <p> <p>And if the web-site has changed and our search-engine (Google, Yahoo, Msn or other) hasn't indexed our web-site lately? <p> <p>In most cases the answer is that people just click on the back-button and try to find what they are looking for in another place. <p> <p>I really don't like web-sites without a "search within the web-site" search-box. <p> <p>So I began to look for some software to put on my website, most of the softwares are very difficult to understand and to make work, but more annoying: No software leads you to your keyword, if they find the page, you have to read the whole page to find your keyword. <p> <p>But then I found Zoom Search Engine 4.2 with the "jump to match" option. <p> <p>This option "jump-to-match" is just fabulous, you search for a key word and you're led directly to the word in the text (of course highlighted) <p> <p>The software is very easy to use and understand, multiple languages, easy to set up, and you can even schedule it to index your web-site as often as you might need, you can just have the software running in the background and you don't even have to think about uploading the new files, with its ftp it does it automatically. <p> <p>Congratulations to Wrensoft and thanks for making things easier

I am very happy with Zoom. I recognize only three speeds with computers <p>(1) The computer is waiting for me <p>(2) I am waiting for the computer <p>(3) I have given up waiting for the computer <p> <p>With Zoom (using cgi) it is always #1 <p> <p>I started by writing a PHP program to query about 25,000 rows in a MySQL database and reached the point of basic testing only to find relies in the #2-3 range. Zoom, using pre-indexing, is 100 times as fast. On top of all that, Support is fast, through and friendly - an unusual and much appreciated combination. Plus, it is inexpensive and thus afordable for my non-commercial service. It is very easy to set up and very, very fast.
Cons
It is missing two features of the more complex search engines: (1) an exclusion operator (- in Google); and (2) the ability to group with () that you get in Lexis/Nexis.

I wanted a website search tool that was not dependant on a DBMS. Zoom fitted my requirements perfectly. <p> <p>Not only are a range of webserver and script types supported, the offline data generation tool is a breeze to use and configure. Within half an hour of finding the link in Google, I had set up a functioning search page on my webserver... <p> <p>There are however enough options to keep most tinkerers happy - from result format customisation to indexing scheduling to direct access to search scripts - all accessable from the offline tool. <p> <p>This tool is perfect for anyone wanting to create an integral search facility on their website. <p> <p>Highly recommended.

This product is excellent. I started up the program and was immediately introduced to a welcome screen and a wizard which makes the whole process extremely quick. <p>The software includes support for many languages, including PHP, CGI, and ASP. There are many ways to customise the default template, and plugins to download from the website. The plugins allow for the user to be able to search PDF, DOC and many other formats including SWF. <p>I recommend this product to anyone needing a fast, reliable search engine.
