Although we'd prefer a larger set of user-customization options, this program does indeed offer small children a fun way to hone rudimentary spelling skills. Before tykes can begin using Zero Spelling, they'll need to enter their name. At that point, the application will flash their name across the screen in a number of colors, fonts, and sizes. The actual spelling tests also are animated and colorful, which should help keep kids interested. After selecting from one of 10 word lists, children will see a word onscreen, hear a British woman use it in a sentence, then be asked to correctly type it. Points are awarded according to how much time is left on the clock. Though the background music certainly seems like a plus, it still would be nice if you could disable it. As it stands, the ability to play in windowed mode is the only actual feature we found. The 100-use trial is more than generous, though we don't think Zero Spelling's library of words is tough enough for older children. All things considered, the program makes a nice tutorial for early elementary school students.
It's okay. Nothing special. Standard spelling software.
