• Fantastic, time saving, documentation software

  Pros

  Saves a huge amount of time creating server documentation. Supports a long list of systems: VMWare, AD, Microsoft Cluster, DNS, Exchange, IIS, SQL, Windows...

  Cons

  Can take a while to install it and all the pre-reqs if they're not already installed. It's worth it though!

  Summary

  If you want to save documenting your network infrastructure then I strongly recommend trying XIA Configuration. It did in hours what would normally take me a couple of days. It also allows me to easily track changes to a system and produces some very neat, professional reports so I can easily share information with others.

  Provides clear and concise documentation in a portable format. Easily updatable and provides good change tracking facilities. Ideal for any size IT environment that requires centralised configuration and documentation.

  Cons

  Less than obvious learning curve as the software is fairly unique in it's field. However this is to be expected.

  Summary

  If you find that maintaining the documentation of your IT systems a chore, XIA gives a very welcome helping hand. While it doesn't completely irradicate the possibility of human error, XIA provides an easy way to keep changes up to date while maintaining an easily visible audit for IT managers. XIA also provides a competent and easy to use way of configuring Windows based IT systems from a centralised location. XIA runs on Windows Servers with very little disturbance to current set ups allowing IT managers and support staff to document many, if not all, aspects of the operating environment. XIA provides documentation in many portable formats allowing the sharing of systems docmentation easy. Basically, if you are looking for a way to document and configure your IT systems, XIA is worth a look.
