This free offline browser captures Web sites so you can view them from your desktop; however, it froze on us several times and produced many error messages along the way.

Wysigot Light's user interface consists of menu and shortcut commands at the top of the window. A tree menu shows all of the Web sites designated for offline view. A large panel displays the actual Web page. We especially liked the Assistant feature, which used a wizard-like approach to guide us through adding new Web sites to the browser. The wizard let us designate how often to check the site for updates, what size we wanted the image to be, and if we wanted to deactivate scripts. When we entered our site information, we received several run-time errors; a window popped up, displaying script-debugger information as HTML code. Unless you're a Web developer, the code will mean nothing. A few different times during our tests, the program froze on us and failed to respond. We had to close it and reopen it to get it to work again.

A Help file is available, but we found nothing that addressed handling the script errors. Wysigot Light has some nice features, but we recommend you wait for a version that addresses the stability issues we encountered.

I cannot understand the problems that Dave the Brave had. THis is a true offline browser that allows me to download a page, click on links to download other pages from there, and keep them all in a database in my computer. I can then go back later to look at tehm. Its great for my holiday searching, as I can flick back and forth between the pages almost like reading a brochure. Cannot be done in any other web browser i have come across. Also works well for buying new kit. I can read reviews, nad go back to them after a week or when i have saved up enough. It will even check at intervals for an updated version of hte page, and i can set it to alarm and tell me when a particular page has updated. If i really wanted, i could ask it to download a page *and all the links in it* to a pre-determined level, either in that server or unrestricted. I've used this and one of its predecessors eCatch for years now. When I was on dial up they were absolutely essential. Now on broadband for over 18 months, I still use Wysigot very regularly. Its shareware, and I have even registered it. Yes if you pay the registration it does export a site. Better, you can save groups of sites as agents, and close tehm, so your interface only shows open agents. I use it to have a group of agents - one for holidays, one for shopping nad equipemtn reviews. One for cars I might save up to buy... and so on. I can even search within ALL the pages I have downloaded, even within agents that are currently closed.

I have, over the past five years, searched for an offline browser that worked like it should. This browser is the only one I've ever had success in using. If you are looking for an offline browser that works like you know it should, don't waste your time download this one first and you will know how I feel. J.D.

I really wanted to grab a couple large websites off the net. This purportedly free light version looked like it would do the trick. I actually downloaded WinHTTrack first, took one look at the interface, and thought, man that looks hard. My first look at Wysigot, I thought, boy this looks easy. Boy, did I get it wrong! Looks deceive. Now I am using WinHTTrack despite its unfriendly user interface. It is a great program that I misjudged! But first I downloaded over 200 meg with Wysigot. It was a pain. Some links on some websites were not downloaded, the whole process was not made clear, errors were not plainly set forth, and you never real know when it's done. Not only that but Wysigot won't "Export," that is, you can't look at the website with IE. WinHTTrack snapped a whole site and spit out: 3.5 hours, 40 megs, website downloaded. It was nice. With Wysigot, after trying to "refresh" the 40 meg website, I pushed some key (don't know what!!), and the whole website was gone, deleted. Ack. Maybe the pay ($40) version's better. Well, I hope this helps somebody: no offense to Wysigot authors... the interface does look nice!
