WOT for IE applies the Web of Trust's user-based ratings systems to Internet Explorer. When you browse to a questionable site, WOT for IE's toolbar icon changes from green to yellow to red, based on the site's reputation. That reputation is based on feedback by actual visitors and shared through the Web of Trust, a free, community-based online rating service. It does for Web sites what Angie's List does for plumbers; sort the trustworthy from the unreliable, the incompetent, and the scammers. WOT's social features let you read feedback shared by other users and contribute your own experiences. We've all blundered across Web sites that turned out to be not quite what was expected (to put it mildly), and this is one way to learn from the mistakes of others. WOT for IE is free, as is the optional WOT account: You don't need to sign up for anything to take advantage of WOT's ratings and warnings.

We installed WOT for IE and clicked to allow it in Internet Explorer. WOT's start page lets you create a new account, which is fast and unintrusive, or sign in to your existing account. WOT for IE's icon appeared in our browser's toolbar, colored green to indicate a safe, reliable site. Hovering the cursor displays the site's rating (Excellent, Fair, Poor) while clicking the icon produces a pop-up with Trustworthiness, Vendor Reliability, Privacy, and Child Safety ratings. We could manage the add-on's settings from IE's Tools menu or by right-clicking WOT for IE's icon as well as open our MyWOT account page and WOT's other resources. WOT for IE's options include Parental Controls and the ability to block sites that have poor reputations.

We had no trouble finding sites that tripped WOT for IE's red alert. Thanks to WOT for IE, we were able to skip those troublesome sites. If you'd like a browser-integrated way to find out about sites before you spend too much time on them or to keep the kids off the dangerous sites, this is a good tool.

Their method of rating websites is highly subjective. Some new websites get automatically bad reputation as WOT use inheritance from parent domain, imstead of evaluating the current website.

Example If u have web site clean, no virus etc etc you might get False Rate and reviews by some one because thats the way their system works. Have alot of friends to rate it best when the actually site is not safe at all, thats why Unreliable source, not useful, very often entirely wrong sites rate and reviews

Web of Trust has turned into something called "Ransom-ware". This means that you will no longer be able to access ratings unless you pay a yearly fee! This is exactly what the WoT community frowns upon as it is considered malware.

Web of Trust (WOT) for Internet Explorer is a dangerous thing to have installed. It is a trojan horse and reports home about every single web site you have visited. Do yourself a favor and avoid/uninstall this spyware.

First web advisor I have used that did not crash my browser thirty times a day. Very user friendly. Lets you set safety levels for different categories including child safety. Allows you to check the history of a site and if there have been any significant changes to the site within the last year and what and how many other sites the owner owns. Definitely makes web browsing less stressful.
Cons
Extension, although enabled, sometimes becomes disabled. I simply enable when this happens. Still a lot of sites that WOT does not have ratings for, but we can change that by rating the sites that we visit. Neither con is a significant problem. I notice that when I rate a page, several users have come behind me and rated it also. Especially if you share on your social networks.

Just a great program. One that not only works, but doesn't stop my browser from working.

Get AVG link scanner - it will spot real problem websites and warn you - not give you something that's an opinion from some thought police group.

They promote it as a plugin that shows us how much "people" trust websites as if people would visit red websites to review them and rate them. No, this is a community of losers who don't have anything better to do than to use a WOT mass rating tool and rate thousands of websites poorly just because they'll never run an internet business or a website because of their low intelligence. WOT is a Web of Trolls and has nothing to do with the trust. I was visiting all websites marked as red or blacklisted, and all of them were safe. My favorite gaming and forum websites were all red, the websites I'm attending for past 4-5 years. WOT is a complete failure.
